RollingStone Magazine Wants to Charge Me

$35,000 for a half of a page which is essentially good for only two weeks in the magazine

I am buying ads for 1 NIGHT IN PARIS the DVD -

1.2 million circulations...

Would yu buy this spot or buy billboards in major markets and radio like Stern?

I am curious to hear what you guys think.

I am passing on Rolling Stone, and hopefully buying bus signage, radio, and billboards

EscortBiz 05-14-2004 02:44 PM

ok i would do late night commercials way better bang and way easier to sell

Jman 05-14-2004 02:44 PM

Stern is Killa for advertising

SykkBoy 05-14-2004 02:53 PM

I would think Maxim or Stuff would be a better buy...

...or http://www.niftynickel.com/

EscortBiz 05-14-2004 02:54 PM

i would avoid print to start

EviLGuY 05-14-2004 03:20 PM

Yeah print sounds like it'd be a waste of $$$.

Hollywood Horwitz 05-14-2004 05:11 PM

yep ,i used to sell print, its a great way to waste some money unless yer advertising a event full page .

Go with billboards. You will get press when the local residents of wherever you put them up try to have them taken down because they find them offensive. You'll get in newspapers, magainzes, and on TV for free.

The outdoor ad companies may never approve the ad to begin with possibly.

Billboards are not going to be cheaper than that if you are planning to have great locations in big cities.

Not sure if you can even get Stern. . . .I talked to them a few weeks ago, and they are not real enthusiastic about accepting adult advertising right now

That sounds like an awful lot of money, when I got their media pack to advertise the 420 calendar in, I din't see prices anywhere near that amount for a full page add, sounds like maybe somebody is giving you the ole stick in the ass in this scenario KB

Mr. Jim 05-14-2004 07:11 PM

direct response.....you will get the most bang for the buck.....even an edited down version

I disagree. I imagine you can get much bigger reach for the CPM elsewhere and from the response to the other Paris video, it seems to strike a postive reaction in lots of demographics that print, radio, prime time TV... will reach. I would want to spend my money going for a broader audience than late night informercials here.

Meeting with 97.1 FM for Leykis and Stern spots- Stern is on Infinity Networks which is much different than Clear Channel

Billboards will be purchased as well.

that does sound pretty high, HOWEVER....

as for blowing a load on print, I'd consider the impact of people that keep magazines around for a few months, years, etc....it's nice to have eyeballs looking at it over time versus the one time bang of a radio/schedule or billboard...not many people that I know record radio shows and play them back over and over, or keep old billboards in their 'billboard rack' in the dentists office....

however...I think you're primarily going for more of a large immediate SPLASH of promo, then yes...shooting for billboards and radio are higher in priority...

Power 106 and KROQ still biggies in LA these days? I'd hit them up for sure if they still controll the number of ears that they used to...

:thumbsup

Repitition is equally as important as reach in most instances, and with radio - they will not be buying one spot but a series over a few weeks... and with billboards many will be driving by the same route on their way to work...everyday and see it many times. You get repitition more in radio and outdoor ad than you do in print no matter how long it hangs around on the coffee table.
