Some tin-foil hat wearing hermit incorrectly uses the term in a recent conspiracy theory article and all of a sudden everyone is throwing it out like they know what it means! The term "Wag the Dog" is way, way off base and couldn't even be definitively used in this situation.
IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RELEVANCE TO THIS SITUATION!!! Monica Lewisky sucking the President off, now that's WAG THE DOG.
The term you all are looking for is Red Herring. That means to stage something in order to divert attention away from yourself or an action. Sorry to be so anal, I just thought I'd nip this in the bud before you get into some heated political debate with your co-workers and making a fool out of yourself. :thumbsup
