fucking crazy: possible aids cure
http://www.wired.com/news/medtech/0,...w=wn_tophead_1
BERKELEY, California -- It took Adam Arkin and David Schaffer just $200,000 and a grad student to develop a potential treatment for AIDS. And that scares them. That's because the therapy itself is a virus. The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory assistant professors created a virus altered to latch onto HIV and mute its ability to become AIDS. They've tested the theory in a computer model and in cells in a dish. The results have been promising, and if they continue in that vein, the researchers could begin animal testing by the end of this year. |
i <3 science.
let me wreck my body, and fix me up! |
I sure hope it works.

i love it, creating a virus to stop a virus. but i think that would require even more testing than 'traditional cures'.
a whole new biotech industry may have just been born, now that could be scary... |
There had been a cure for the last 15 years but it's more profitable to treat the disease than cure it.

What's really scary is all of you don't seem to realize that this isn't NEW science. Vaccines are built on small amounts of the disease to give immunity, for example. Homeopathic medicine, thousands of years old, is built on similar hypotheses.
Given the elusive 1969-1970 patent that has been recently come to trials which have been postponed over and over re the creation of an autoimmune virus, these guys should avoid small planes and showering for a while. It's hope. Real hope. But hope can be an enemy of control. Call me cynical if you want, criticize it if you want. But we're all in the porn biz and if you believe enjoying sex equals death you shouldn't be in this business. Those of us with reserves should find ways to fund their research indirectly. -doug |

I wonder if those guys need some more money. I will hahahahaha a check right now because bareback fucking a smokin chick you just met in a bar's back room is priceless.

The big problem will go back to being herpes. |
Bottom line, it is all about the profit and not the life they are saving. :(
|
Don't get your hopes up just yet. There has NEVER been a cure for any virus, only vaccines. I can't imagine a cure would be found before a vaccine.
But I'll keep my fingers crossed. :2 cents: |

Other scientists HAVE to of considered attacking the virus in the same way somewhere along the way. That's probably what scares them. If they can find it this fast, and this easy.... then why hasn't there been a cure yet? Most likely, as was already said... they decided that it's better to make it possible to "live with AIDS" rather than cure it completely. There's more money in life long medication, then in an instant cure. |
That would be a greta hope for everyone.
