what the fuck is the deal with memory optimizers?
 

I must have tried out 2 dozen different programs that supposedly "optimize" and free up memory when it starts to get run down, and every single damn one of them, as soon as you hit the "optimize" button, it locks the fucking system and renders it fucking useless until you are forced to either reboot or pull the goddamned plug.

is there anything that actually fucking works out there or is "memory optimization" a fucking unicorn?

or am I just doing something wrong here? I have my paging file set to maximum of 4096. Is that good or bad? Is there anything in Winblows that can be set to kick this fucker into high gear?

I use Ginkgo Bioba - the bottle says enhances memory.

i don't believe any of that herbal shit works at all. It's a bunch of mumbo fucking jumbo witchdoctor shit designed to suck your wallet dry.

there is no way to "optimize memory" that i'm aware of. my guess is those programs just free() up memory that were previously allocated by other programs which have crashed or just havent free'd memory they didnt clean up.

i guess the "paging file" is w1ndows' swap. when your shit gets slow, press ctrl-alt-delete and look at memory usage. if its full, get some more memory.

How much memory do you have on your machine?

They are bullshit from my experience. I just loaded the pc with more ram and that helped.

RAM is already maxed out at over a gig.

what is the problem? machine is really slow or what? If you have more than 1000 fonts, winblows will gag. If you have a big harddrive, make the pagefile bigger.

fuck it.... I guess it's time to start shopping for a dual cpu P4 machine with 5 or 6 gigs of ram.... more if I can find it. These bloated fucking apps are just too damn slow in response time. Fucking DWMX takes 60 seconds to re-display on a restore from minimized. That's ridiculous. That shit should be visible and useable in less than one second in my opinion.

Or switch to linux :)
