Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

I would suggest yoga over TKD, it's more useful in a fight, at least you'll be flexible ;)

Goose 05-13-2004 03:55 PM

I'm fortunate enough to live in LA, close to Torrance. I get to train with the Gracies every day. They're amazing. Truly amazing. For the first six months or so of your training, Rener or Ryron Gracie can beat you laying on his back using just his legs, sounds crazy but it's a fact. You can't penetrate past their legs and when you get a little tired they'll just let you drop into a triangle and out go the lights.

I've seen them let strong, coordinated men put them in a fully applied rear naked choke and escape from it. Crazy stuff.

if it isn't in NHB don't bother. If it worked, they'd use it.

The "Gracies" must be the biggest brazilian family ever. Places all around Brazil named "(insert first name here) Gracie Jiu-Jitsu".

there are a TON of Gracies now and they all fight or teach. It's a family tradition.

There's a good family chart at http://www.igjjf.com

I have studied Martial Arts for the last 27 years. Mainly Tae Kwon Do (Rhee and Traditional), Wing Chun, Karate (Shotokan), Aikido (Fuji-Ryu), Boxing and Kick Boxing, Ninjitsu, and Jeet Kune Do.

I instructed for a few years and used to live with a a few Martial Artists, one who was an Australian Shotokan champion and another who had personally studied with Grandmaster William Cheung. It was great I used to be attacked regularly and unexpectedly by 3 or 4 attackers all who had black belts in more than one Martial Art. I learned as much in that environment as in any Dojo.

I am now teaching my 18 month old daughter Aikido basics. She is amazing! :thumbsup

twistyneck 05-14-2004 10:50 AM

I graduated from Ninja school.

Buddy 05-14-2004 10:51 AM

Aikido
Small Circle JuJitsu

I did some cross training in these as well:
Judo, Hapkido, Kick Boxing, Wing Chun.

monica 05-14-2004 10:55 AM

Gracie Jiu Jitsu... absolutely LOVE it!

The Gallery Girl 05-14-2004 10:58 AM

10 years of TKD also, got my degree 3 years ago and havent practiced since then, at least physical practice, cause I still study and read a lot about all martial arts.

Good to see many here are into martial arts and I'm surprised most of them are into TKD, that's cool :)

Morgan 05-14-2004 11:00 AM

axelcat 05-14-2004 11:07 AM

Im a black belt

Dirty D 05-14-2004 11:14 AM

I did a few years of Judo then TKD...
The Gracies ROCK... I have a couple of their training videos.
The NHB fights have renewed my respect for Jiujitsu

My situational awareness has improved with paintball games - lol

I have lost a fight in training or sparring,
but never lost a street fight :thumbsup

I have had two life threatening challenges
(one knife and one gun)
both encounters were over in less than 10 seconds
no injuries for me, wish I could say the same for them!

My favorite TKD instructors quotes "one punch fight over" or "one kick fight over"

Dirty D bows in respect to his affiliates!
