Does anyone use digimarc? (image watermarking + web spider to find illegal copies)

A watermarked image can be manipulated somewhat (resized 0.6X to 2X, rotated) and still contain a recoverable watermark. They have a spider that hunts for images with your watermark on them, so you can see any unauthorised use.

Has anyone creating original images intended for exclusive use on one or two sites only ever used this system?

sounds like a good idea, but image pirates will just remove the digimarc...

With all the free content out there these days.. why do people still steal? It boggles the mind.

According to the web site there is no utility available to remove the watermark, plus it would be difficult to remove it without compromising the quality of the image.

I guess it's probably less practical in the adult world. I found it on a (mainstream) photographer's website... he only sells prints, so obviously only his site should contain the digital samples. :)

I used to use it for some mainstream stuff and graphics I made. They had a free deal that allowed you a certain amount of usage, and then I did a paid deal for a year. It worked really well for general use, since the average surfer wouldn't know how to remove something like that, even if it were possible. I remember getting an email telling me my subscription was running out, awhile back, but I didn't renew.
