Make sure it's not a quick format - this just removes all of the indexing to the different files and folders so it appears empty, but the data is still there and can be recovered with a bit of work.

Don't use a magnet, that will fuck up the low level format and could physically damage the drive.

I am using the full format its taking about a hour to do

Sounds like the right one then. :) If you are really paranoid, find some huge files to copy (even the same file with diff names) so it overwr<b></b>rites everything on the drive. Then format again.
