Can't view source in Explorer

When I try to view the source of pages in explorer, nothing happens. The comp loads for a sec and then absolutely nothing. This is happening on all pages, even those on the hard drive. Ever experienced this or know what might be causing it?

Have tried rebooting several times...

Clear your browser cache

FuqALot 05-11-2004 08:33 AM

Maybe you have to just reboot one more time.

you may want to try Spybot - Search and Destroy

Stallion 05-11-2004 08:58 AM

After clearing cache did you close all browsers and then open a new one? This might help.

If it doesn't reboot and try again.

It happens to me every once and awhile but this usually fixes the problem.

Anna_O 05-11-2004 03:06 PM

I've cleaned the system with both Spybot - S&D and Adaware... They find some spyware and removes it. Everytime I reboot and launch IE the spyware is there again. And still can't view source. FUCK!

Anna_O 05-11-2004 03:22 PM

Any other spyware removal programs that are good?

Anna_O 05-11-2004 03:41 PM

*BUMPING* this in hope of help... Can't even open "notes" manually. And the spyware seems inpossible to get rid of. :(

AvanteGuard 05-11-2004 04:04 PM

Anna, try this:

1) put your internet cache DOWN to 100MB.
2) restart IE. That should fix it.

Anna_O 05-11-2004 04:20 PM

Have finally got rid of the spyware thanks to this: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html :thumbsup

AvanteGuard, tried it but still can't view the source though...

AMADude 05-11-2004 04:21 PM

I had that problem and soooooo many more, I am using Firefox now.
:thumbsup

That has happened to me occasionally.
I just delete offline content..

Tools -> Internet options -> temporary internet files/delete files (delete all offline content)

That has helped for me. Then close the explorer and start a new one. If that's not it, then I wouldn't know.

cool1 05-11-2004 04:25 PM

Had that happen to me and it stole my notepad exe

not having a hahahahahahas disk anymore means I can't change it to another editor or replace the notepad exe.
I can't view source at all now

Anna_O 05-11-2004 04:27 PM

I've had this happen a few times before, cleaning the temp files usually fix it. But not this time. Have tried EVERYTHING but nothing works. Even tried to launch notepad from within the windo*ws/system32/ folder, but it won't start. It loads for a few seconds but then nothing more happens.

AMADude, what is firefox?

had the same problem... switched to opera -> problem solved!

firefox is a (better) browser..

Anna_O 05-11-2004 04:51 PM

And to make matters worse, they spyware wasn't removed as I thought... Oh fuck.

We use explorer because we do lots of design and want to see sites the way the majority of surfers do. Maybe it's time to switch...

Anna_O 05-11-2004 05:11 PM

*I'VE FINALLY FIXXED IT* :)

For anyone interested in the solution:
Delete notepad.exe from the wind*ows/system32/ folder and replace it with notepad.exe from the wind*ows/ folder. Simple as that :)

Now if I could just get rid of that nasty spyware shit once and for all... :321GFY
