Bansheelinks 05-11-2004 01:08 AM

Very close.......but no cigar as of yet. Both have to be specifically named to hand them out.

arial 05-11-2004 01:09 AM

2. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The (2003) $1,128,756,583

I wonder if one of the summer ones coming up will hit $1 Billion?

I think Spidey has the best shot. Troy would have but its Rated R.

I think Passion of the Christ will soon join that list.

pure energy 05-11-2004 02:15 AM

I've seen LOTR (1, 2 & 3) about 4 times already! :winkwink:

Bansheelinks 05-11-2004 02:21 AM

Nope. Passion of the Christ is stalled and will make only around $600 Million. Its only done well in America as a good deal of Americans are evangelicals. In Germany, France, UK, and Japan coming soon, its done poorly and these are major international markets. Its made most of its coin in the U.S.

McKracken 05-11-2004 03:56 AM

passion is still doing good sales on a weekly basic!!!!

My prediction : The Chronicles of Riddick (Pitchblack guy = Riddick) will be this summers biggest hit and probally hit $600 million.

It has the potential to be the new sci-fi blockbuster and when it airs it will have no major movies to battle with!

????? Its dropping like a stone since Easter ended!

During the week, its getting LESS THAN 10 PEOPLE PER LOCATION its showing at! For instance, last Thursday, each location showing this movie was earning, on average, $69.

Its on its way down. As of now, its done $590 Million worldwide, but $368 Million of that is in the US/Canada region. The real massive movies make about 65% of their coin in the countries other than the US and Canada, and "Passion" hasn't done that great in the big Int'l markets.

Its done really, really well but it won't even crack the Top 20 of all time. It'd have to make almost $30 Million more to do this, and its not making that much anymore.

Living For Today 05-11-2004 04:15 AM

passion of christ does not deserve to be anywhere near the top of the list.

I have to agree; its basically two hours of jesus getting the shit kicked out of him..........and anyone would have been dead via that scourging he took..........methinks Mel wanted to make an overkill statement that he could "take it" 'cause he was christ.........yeah, ok mel

I think I read something a long time ago that if

the 10 Commendments and
Ben Hur

would been played in todays economy they would have grossed over 1 Billion.

They did but you need to calculate inflation and stuff

AHH whatever,, I need more coffee

Ben Hur was the movie that saved MGM from bankruptcy.

It was one of the greatest all time classics. I have no doubt that it would of made a billion dollars in our time.

The more important consideration is the LACK of competition back in those days............nowadays you have hundreds of times more movies being made and they make a run and are usually out of most of the theatres by 14 or 15 weeks...........back then, they had pictures like "Gone With the Wind" playing at theatres for like 2 years...........and there were hardly any movies made during the year compared to now............so its hard to say...........also, especially in the last 20 years, movies have gotten so very expensive to go to compared to before..........this prevents families from going to the movies as a family, or strongly discourages it at least...............then there is home video........how many times have you said, "Well I'll wait til that one comes out on video."

When you take these things into consideration, there is no doubt in my mind that "Titanic" had by far the most successful run in movie history box-office wise, especially considering these new factors. And I thought it was merely a good to very good movie, and not a great one.

Coffee sounds good.

puresexnow 05-11-2004 07:56 AM

I would've thought "Big Trouble in Little China" would have eclipsed both of those no worries.

Kurt Russell in a tank top? That's gotta draw a few hundred million women viewers right there...
