Is the gold rush still going on? Is it just as easy as it was years ago? Or have the newer generations of webmasters just been getting dumber?

Stronger then ever.

Goldrush is looooong gone. Back when I started it was significantly easier than it is these days. I used to be able to see income from every project I started, these days I'd be happy to see income from 10% of my efforts.

Industry is saturated, plain and simple.

All depends on how much market share you've grabbed so far.

The Goldrush is gone

Brains have taken over.
Which means those that do make cash most likely make more then the ones during the Goldrush.

Now webmasers must know everything about productivity, global tracking, know a lot more than just html etc. So yes I think the gold rush is gone, and if you want to start in this and have no idea about computers you better expect to work for at least 6 months with out making very much. When I started you just made a white or black page with thumbs, sent it out to about 20 TGP's (if you knew that many!) and you were sure to make some money :glugglug

The goldrush is just beginning to start... Even a one braincell person can make tens of thousands/month currently. Try that in the real corporate world:thumbsup

Gold rush is gone... but strong will survive no matter what the conditions are....

I make a decent living but those amounts sound way better.

tens of thousands per month? within a year, with zero investment?

with zero investment? I say never... (was slightly overreacting. Just say almost anyone can make at least 5 times more than a regular McDonnals job in 1 year)

I am a 5 year overnight success.

And still going strong, and still expanding, and getting higher returns.

But damn, the skill set and knowledge base required to do well gets wider by the day...
