Just to make sure.... i'm not saying that torture is a good thing and even worse taking pictures of it - i'm just saying watching friends and fellow soldiers die can make people do strange things.
Punishing a few stupid soldiers dosent cure the problem, its like giving pain killers to an aids patient - it might work for a while, but wont cure the problem. |
lame.

However as i said earlier, these persons who are put on trial are part of a larger problem. Yes it was stupid and i'm sure many of them who participated in this regrets it looking back on it - but in the heat of things people have a tendency to loose grasp of reality - especially when they havent had prober training which most of the prison guards hadn't recieved. - and as for standing orders...to my knowledge there has been some talk about wheather or not there was a standing order "to get the prisoners to talk with whatever means they had". |
It's war things like this happen, in world war 2 half of the people in battle didn't take no prisoners, they were killed right on the spot so i would say these guys got off easy but it's still wrong.

But his did not happen in a battlezone. This happened in a secure controlled enviroment where only our side have weapons. And from what I understand most of the people being held were not captured after a battle. They were there under suspicion, and/or turned in by other iraqis for reward money, meaning a lot may be innocent victims of profiteers trying to make a buck, or just had an unfriendly relationship with the person who pointed the finger. But if you're an officer trying to sort this shit out and get the country under control, you're going to err on the side of caution and keep everyone confined. During this time, all iraqi citizens should be considered innocent until proven guilty; same rules we expect here. PS. "avangence" is not a word. you can take "vengence" on the guy who murdered your lover, and you can "avenge" your lovers murder. |
The first pic is fake btw...
|
That's the first time I saw the pissing pic. There are guidelines that these troops are trained on and they really went over the line. Too bad all on America will have to pay for their stupid mistakes.
|
Okay, first off, I am not trying to justify what has apparently happened over there, but I will point out a coupel of facts.
There was a study done at a major university where one group of college students was put in control over another group of college students to see what the effects of control were. This was supposed to be a two week test, but they had to stop it after one week because the control group started going overboard with the mistreatment of the controlled group. I have heard of a few of these tests being done, all with the same results. These were not done in a war time environment. What did it prove? Pretty much that it is human nature to take advantage of the situation when one is put in a power situation like that. Secondly, how many times have you read about college and high school hazing incidents, where boys and girls both went to extreme measures when put in a position of power. Lastly, would you rather be in a POW camp in Iraq/Cuba, or on Fear Factor? |
First pic was faked for UK papers

Mind - thanks for saving this thread. For a while there I thought it was going to end without one intelligent thing said
|
The pic where the guy is deathly afraid of the dogs is sick to see. Then again, I probably wouldn't have too much compassion for the guy if he tried to kill me earlier.
