Question... would you prefer straight salary or salary/commission?

Question... Would you prefer straight salary or salary/commission? Now keep in mind if you chose the later the salary will be less then the straight salary.

Depends on product.

salary/comission all the way.............makes me hustle more:glugglug

Depends on the product (if its nearly impossible to sell then salary only) but almost always I'd take salary+commission, its the only way to give incentive to people to sell more.

Salary and bonus commissions for going past targets...

Best of both worlds and nice incentive.

Anything can be an easy seller if you find the right market to sell it in. :2 cents:

salary and commission. Base to cover living - commission for grow and incentive - you dont have to increase salary after a year or two - simply the % of commission.

brickbat 05-06-2004 08:20 PM

Commission only. A salary would feel like welfare to me.

BradM 05-06-2004 08:22 PM

Salary + commission once I beat targets.
And bonuses out of the kindness of the companies heart. ;)

Whatever is more in the end.

Depends on the job.
Most people in this thread assume its in sales, so yeah I'd want an incentive to go along with the base in that scenario and probably wouldn't take a full time position without some sort of minimum compensation guarantee.

On the other hand, I've turned down jobs in this business because people wanted to pay me a salary or a fee for service type deal and I said no I wanted to work for a %.

Salary needs to be good to cover life expenses, but comission is needed to keep you hungry and wanting more. The harder you work = the higher the reward.

Furious_Male 05-06-2004 08:27 PM

Straight commission or commission against a draw. No salary. Thats the way I prefer to work and anyone I hire would have to like the same. If you can't hack it then you can't sell. Go work 9-5 with the broads at the bank.
