I Formatted C: And Survived .... Sorta
whoa ..... a week of computer woes and finally gave up and reformatted. i missed the GFY miscreants.
now i have to figure out how to restore shit from what I backed up - anybody know how to restore Outlook Express email boxes (.dbx file)? I try to import them by selecting the folder which has the backeup .dbx files - but it keeps giving me this crap "no messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open'. Bullshit, no other apps running. Anybody know how to do this? Also, how do i restore ICQLite contact lists when I go and re-install the program? What's the file called that holds the contact lists? Thanks |
I can't stress enough what a great program this is.

Your ICQ contact lists should come right back since they are stored on the ICQ server.
I have no idea how to do the Outllok import. I use Mozilla's mail client. |
check out download.com, Outlook's import feature is full of shit

any of this Outlook Express backup software free? Tired of spending money this week - $1,000 fucking with this computer, $1000 for Mom's birthday Mother's Day gift, red ink ..... |
Yeah I use a program to backup/import my outlook mailbox too.
Have like 500 megs worth of saved messages from over the years. :) |

Change folder view to show hidden files apply to all folders ?temporally of course? Navigate to C:\hahahahahahahahas and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{blablabla}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Then just copy and paste the whole outlook folder. Note for the outlook folder to be created on a fresh install you need to at least open then cancel the outlook wizard once. For your email boxes you need to export and import those separate which are a (.iaf) file not (.dbx |
yeah i did that - why should i un-hide those folders now?
btw it doesn't work - i just copy n pasted some email (dbx) boxes, backups, and created those folders with the same name in OE and it doesn't work. This is the software that did the trick, instructions were confusing, it wouldn't work for anything but the mailboxes that come pre-constructed when u install IE/OE (inbox, outbox. sent etc) - it wouldn't work with the email boxes i added i.e. Personal, Projects, - it only worked after I restored Folders.dbx from the backup. It's free and it works, http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/ bookmark it cuz eventually you will need it. now i have to figure out how to delete 2 GIGs of email, computer freezes when i try to delete too much at once and i don't have the paitience to do 100 or whatever at a time. |
im about to format myself...just picked a new 120gig hard drive too
all my dll files are fucked up/// only netscape and a few games working right now |
yeah i gotta format also. didnt format in like 6 years. and my computer is so damn slow because of it

I was just saying the easiest way I found to back up all the outlook stuff is to copy and paste the whole outlook folder, however to do so you need to be able to see it ? by allowing hidden files? it hides otherwise |
