From http://www.freep.com/sports/otherspo...6_20040506.htm
BASKETBALL: At Pleasantville, N.J., a coach who gave a 13-year-old player a "Crybaby Award" will be banned from coaching, sent to sensitivity training and ordered to make a public apology. James Guillen, 24, a third-year special education teacher at the Pleasantville Middle School, had a trophy made up showing an infant atop a pedestal, with a plaque bearing the inscription of player Terrence Philo Jr. and the words "Crybaby Award." Terrence was spelled "Terrance." :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Im sure this is just the beginning. Didnt fox try to get someone to sponsor the fake line they put on the football field with their name on it or someshit?

RP Fade 05-06-2004 04:46 PM

I'm an advertising guy and I hate it....total cheese for that type of sport for sure. It works for NASCAR, auto racing in general and some other sports, but to sell out like this is a shame. You can look up tons of stats on the game of baseball from a business perspective and see that maybe 3 or 4 teams are profitable....no wonder their selling ad space on base pads....

FlyingIguana 05-06-2004 05:51 PM

if there's space out there without an ad on it currently, its a potential advertising spot in the future.

soon cities will sell sidewalks to advertising companies. parking meters sponsored by microsoft. streets sponsored by ibm. your tax returns with advertising enclosed.

Wow.... that's going to far

Baseball got wise, and listened to the fans.

I think helmets should have ads, and bats should have ads, and each uniform should have ads. So should each baseball. And the grass should be mowed to say "NIKE" from an arial view.

J-Reel 05-06-2004 07:14 PM

It's a crying shame.

Ic3m4nZ 05-06-2004 07:23 PM

Yeah it's very weird with the MLB and going a little bit too far.. and I heard also some companies are even going to offer for some people to buy their ad spaces on their cars and pay them sooner or later.
