Do you just accept what ever your gov't or your media tells you?

Do you just assume that they always tell you the truth? That if you're seeing it, it must be the way it is?

It's all about informed decision making, and when taking in information, you need to consider the information's source and the possible bias of its distributor.

History has proven that it is unwise to assume that what government or media tells you is truth.

chAos 05-06-2004 04:52 PM

Too true... I bet that statement is made a lot in politics "if we believe it, the people will believe it, so let's put on a good show"

NO freakin way....... i know im naive to some extent, but the media has some reall bullshit, all they care about is selling not the truth. many times we only see one side of the story(and thats theres), and we all know there are two sides to everything.

fuck the government and the media!!!! :321GFY

asuna 05-06-2004 05:07 PM

Don't trust CNN!

reynold 05-06-2004 05:34 PM

Nope. The media is a powerful tool to convince people on a lot of matters but then, people nowadays are wiser. The gov't always air their side and try to put the blame on others.

Wilber 05-06-2004 05:46 PM

I was ok with it until they did the "Oswald acted alone" bit.

Ever since then I smell the milk before I drink it, I don't care
what the date says.

The media always tries to make reality bigger than it really is just to sell papers or commercials :(

Media always tend to twist things up so it'll sound more drastic.

Blinky 05-06-2004 08:36 PM

Hell no. In this day and age, how could you ? The government is controlling you....

AbulletAway 05-06-2004 08:52 PM

Did anyone see that HBO movie about Poncho Villa? It was about a movie crew going down to Mexico to film Poncho in real battles. The studio built Poncho Villa up as a hero and the people shooting the movie even started to believe he was till at one point in cold blood he shoots this grieving widow in the head. The film studio having already put so much money in to the film edited the clip of PV shooting the widow to make it look like it was the Mexican government that did it. Most of the filmmakers were disgusted with the studios decision to that. And watching the clip as it was shown in theaters it really did galmourize him and make him look good.

The media and governments have been that same type of thing long before that and ever since. I don't care if its CNN, FOX or Al Jazira, they are all biased. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. But when watching any news the most important and revealing information is always in what they don't tell you. And if you actually watch news that way you'll see they all leave stuff out.

AbulletAway 05-06-2004 08:53 PM

Ohand by the way, good question Stu.

:thumbsup

Most Americans either get their news from Jay Leno or David Letterman while younger Americans get their news from John Stewart.

Are comedians now a tool of the establishment?
