Tips on bulking up?

share your tips guys. I have a very high metabolism with a ectomorph body type. I trying to bulk up but its been pretty hard to gain weight. Any suggestions would be great.

Mr. Mojo Risin 05-06-2004 11:21 AM

lots of protein and more weight/less reps vs. less weight/more reps

pyramiding.... start with low weight and work up to a lot of weight and then back down again in a "pyramid" structure

get some protein mix and put it in a big thermos and drink it throughout the day

bottom line is ingest more protein and workout harder

zzgundamnzz 05-06-2004 11:22 AM

Eat steak and lots of meat everyday and get plenty of exercise. The amount of protein should help you to bulk up.

Lonny 05-06-2004 11:25 AM

my favorite way of putting on weight is mixxing peanut butter with oatmeal.

~Ray 05-06-2004 11:35 AM

eat lots of eggs, peanut butter and red meat. eat until you are full, then eat a bit more. You MUST work out with heavy weights... (3 sets of 6 to 8 reps). if you can do more, then you should be using more weight. don't forget to work upper body 1 day and lower body the next. work the lower body really hard...it sucks, but those muscles are the biggest and will help your whole body "cut" by burning lots and lots of fat.

if you do not work out hard... you will become a fat ass quickly with all of the extra food you are eating...:2 cents:

What's your workout schedule like?

If you're not hitting the gym several times a week, you should (and use the personal trainer many offer).

Then... creatine ;)

My boyfriend had the same problem....very high metabolism. He said if you're having trouble gaining weight, intake lots of protein (eggs, steak, other meats, peanut butter) and workout everyday you can, alternating upper body days and lower. Also, core lifts like squat (hip-sled as an alternative), power-clean, dead-lift, and bench work out many muscle groups, so start with those before working extremities. He said he lifts less reps, with heavier weights to build muscle first, then after he's to his desired mass, he ups reps while reducing weight to cut up. And if you don't mind supplements, creatine works like Miracle Grow....just make sure you drink lots of water with it.

smack 05-06-2004 12:32 PM

goto GNC and ask them. there's tons of different supplements. alot of my friends that are into body building have at least a dozen jars of pills and mixes. one common thing they all seem to share though is whey protein and creatine.

Floridiot 05-06-2004 12:43 PM

If you have a high metabolism eat lots of fatty foods then as it turns to muscle it will keep the weight on also go online and search for VPX products buy the paradecca it put alot of size on me and it is not a steroid.

wdsguy 05-06-2004 02:34 PM

thanks for the tips, bump

KaLi 05-06-2004 03:02 PM

Start working out, lol.. Take creatine everyday for 1 month. Take a protein shake as well after you work out. Don't eat before you work out, instead eat a big carb/protein full meal after. You should see a difference after about a month. :thumbsup

Also, keep workouts to every other day and do the entire. Like M / W / F working out everyday just rips you more. Give the body time to rebuild. After a few months, split things up... like legs and back M / W and arms & chest T / TH

Go heavy w/ less reps like what was said. Eat lots of protien and even fat, but stay away from carbs. Don't go totally atkins, but close.

Creatine has become one of the most popular sports supplements among professional and amateur athletes.

lift weights pyramid style!!

for every set..add more weights.

ex: set1 - 10 times @ 50lbs
set2 - 10 times @ 60lbs
set3 - as many as you can more weights
then last set, go back to a lighter set and do as many as possible and burn :thumbsup

See a dietician. Seriously.

Short of that, there's a lot of good ideas here in previous posts. Focusing heavy on protein is obvious... make sure you take in a good dose within 4 hours after working out. Also a good idea is to suck back a fruit juice or some other source of simple carbs within the same period, so your body can replenish your muscles' store of glycine used while working out.

There's a bunch of good supplements that'll help too. Creatine, chromium pecolinate, etc... again, dietician can be a big help there in indicating what supplements would be most advantageous to your body type.

Oh, and on behalf of all us endomorphs who have to bust ass and starve ourselves: go fuck yourself :321GFY

hmm, first off look into HIT training. train the whole body over two workouts. workout every 4 days.

30g of protein min every 3 hours. not 3.5 or 4, 3 hours. make sure you're getting all your vitamins and minerals and eat as much as you can. but try to eat good foods like chicken, steaks, etc.

here's my personal weight gain shake. contains about 50% fat but with a fast metabolism it won't matter.

1 litre of homo milk
125g cottage cheese(no diet/light crap)
125g of ice cream(i like chocolate, again something with some calories)
4 tablespoons of sugar or so to taste
can add a banana as well for some some good minerals

a couple of these everyday will help. and eat, eat and eat. learn to forcefeed yourself even when your not hungrey.

and hope you have enough cash to buy enough food to fight off the metabolism.

Wait.

Your metabolism will slow to a crawl as you get older and the pounds become much easier to pack on. I am currently on the "Abs Of Jello" program and let me tell you, this fucker WORKS!
They key is pizza, lots of pizza. In between pizza workouts it's good to replenish with chips, dip and beer. And NEVER drink water, only soda. You should see results within two weeks.
