Could you fall in love...

A spin-off of Sleazy's thread (sorry Sleazy!)...

BUT, could or would you ever fall in love with someone that had a terminal illness or a condition that greatly impacted their lifespan? Would you be willing to put effort into a relationship like this? Do you think it would be worth pursuing or would it be a waste of time that could be better spent with someone else?

"Discuss..."

It's unfortunate but i'd say no... You know you'll suffer in the end.

Although I'd have to say, there's a much bigger chance of me getting involved with someone that suffers from a terminal illness or condition, than an STD. I don't have sympathy for people that contract STD's, it's a lifestyle choice they make and they can live with it. I feel alot more sympathy for people that suffer from conditions people are born with, or contract at no fault of their own.

Isn't it better to have loved and lost then to have never have loved at all? It's cliche, but I believe so.

I love my sweetheart very much and I'd stick to her through thick and thin, terminal illness, AIDS, whatever. I'll be by her side the whole time.

If its true love, yes, I'll do anything for her.

Wow, judgmental, much? :Graucho

I would have to say yes, but for less than altruistic reasons. You could have a brief, intense, passionate affair without the bother of a long-term commitment. Your friends and loved ones would see you as a saint. Heck, you might even get a movie made about you, with Julia Roberts playing the lead role.

Sorry, I'm in Phoenix and the A/C's broken. I'm in a rather pissy mood...

TheFrog 05-05-2004 11:55 PM

We love who we love, when we love them... the answer has to be yes.

X37375787 05-06-2004 04:39 AM

there is not much you can do about falling in love... isn't there?

that's why it is called falling in love... because usually the fall is unvoluntary. otherwise it'd be called "jumping" in love or something. hehe

absolutely yes.

Thats a difficult question .. when you fall in love you cant do anything against that . But if I would have had the chance to decide if I want to love somebody before I actually do it I would probably say no ..

Everybody knows how much it hurts to loose someone you love .. And the more you love the more it hurts .. And when I am together with someone with a terminal illnes that would mean that you really love that someone VERY VERY much .. so the pain would be too much and it would be better to look out for someone else to love ..

Jer 05-06-2004 04:55 AM

Yes.

true love is worth the suffering and there is no reason to think that just because you don't know of any problems with someone you start a relationship with that they won't become ill and then how are you going to deal with it?

People here know that I am married to a man with a physical disablity and it is not getting any better. I knew it when I married him and it is not always easy because it does put a lot of demands on me. However, I get to go through life knowing i married someone that REALLY loves me and that I love that much in return. Yes, one day he will be taken from be but I would rather have what I can than to have missed knowing him the way that I do.
