More Iraqi War Crimes

Apologies if this has been posted earlier, I couldn't find any links to it-

Sharpshooter: "He's wounded."

Officer: "Hit him. Hit the truck and him."

This shocking conversation was taken from an explosive video shown on French TV last night apparently showing a US gunship killing three Iraqi men.

He is shot by the gunship's sniper

In the footage shown by Canal Plus, the officer commanding the helicopter appears to order his sniper to kill the third man despite being told he was injured.

Knowingly killing an enemy who is wounded is a war crime under international law.

If the footage is genuine, it will add pressure to the US, less than a week after photos showed American soldiers abusing Iraqi PoWs in a Baghdad prison.

President Bush is due to appear on Middle Eastern TV in a bid to calm Arab anger over claims of US abuse.

The three-and-half-minute helicopter video was allegedly filmed at an undisclosed location in Iraq on December 1 last year.

Canal Plus said the footage had been stolen from the military by a European who had just finished working as a US Army subcontractor in Iraq.

Conversations between the pilot, sharpshooter and their commanding officer can be heard on the tape.

The footage shows how the three men are killed one after the other.

It begins with a sports utility vehicle driven by a man, who joins another man waiting near a truck.

One of the two grabs a long object, which the US soldiers identify as a weapon, and discards it several metres away.

The two, believed to have weapons, are then joined by a third man aboard a tractor.

"Got auto range on him," the sharpshooter says of the first man, whose arms are down by his side.

"Roger. Hit him," orders the officer in charge.

The second man, who attempts to hide behind the tractor after the shooting of the first suspect, is subsequently shot dead.

After the deaths of his two companions, the third man tries to hide under the truck, but is hit by helicopter gunfire.

"Got the guy right here," says the sharpshooter, as the wounded man is seen crawling on the ground.

"Good. Fire. Hit him," replies the officer.

"Wait, some movement by the truck," says the shooter. "He?s wounded."

"Hit him. Hit the truck and him. Go forward," replies the officer.

Not a 100% sure on the Geneva Convention wording, but I would assume it meant wounded soldiers who are out of combat, e.g not reaching for their weapons, or making attempt to surrender, to assume that you could not shoot someone wounded in their arm who was reaching for a pistol would be deadly.

If I'm correct I think that was from Gulf War I.

They were about to fire on the chopper so they're allowed to kill them all.

That sounds like a dumb rule to have during battle.

So... if I am fighting for my life with some guy, and I notice that I graze his arm, the rules say I have to stop trying to kill him at that point??

A little too much spin on this one maybe?
