Epassporte: This is some fucked up shit!!! Someone stole $695.48

This is some crazy shit!!!! I had some old unauthorized charges on my virtual card ( http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=273759
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=263664 )

I talked with epassporte and they temporarily suspended my account and blocked both my virtual & electron card. My last correspondence with them was Apr 27 and haven't heard back from them since which SUCKS! Today I took a look at my account and I see some cocksucker bought some stuff from an online store in Sweden for $695.48 on my virtual card EVEN if my card was blocked WTF. You guys have to take a look at your security!!!!!!

RP Fade 05-05-2004 05:27 PM

I cant go -00.01 on my account, it just declines it. I thought that was the way the debit card system worked.

I expect it will dishonored and the money will just go back on your account.

I hope anyway!!

Raf1 05-05-2004 05:46 PM

That sucks man. I haven't had any trouble with epassporte, but this is pretty scary shit

DraX 05-05-2004 05:48 PM

Paparazzi 05-05-2004 06:04 PM

Denial and/or blame someone else I reckon. Probably a bit of snottiness thrown in for good measure.

psyko514 05-05-2004 10:13 PM

Since you all seem to know sweet fuck all about how Visa cards work, here's a little schooling.

Merchants have something called floor limits. The floor limit is a maximum amount a merchant can charge to a Visa card without obtaining an authorization. The floor limits are specific to the merchant category and not merchants themselves.

For example (and these numbers are totally made up for example purposes), all grocery stores can process transactions of up to $200 US without requesting an authorization.

When a transaction is passed under the floor limit, no communication is done with Visa before the transaction is completed. The merchant swipes the card the capture the account information for when they do their deposits afterwards.

If a transaction is done under the floor limit, it'll automatically go thru on the account, regardless of whether the account is closed, overlimit, delinquent, been placed on hold, etc. If for any reason the transaction is not valid (for example, a fraudulent transaction), Visa takes responsibility.

On top of that, a merchant can process transactions of any amount without requesting an authorization. However, if the transaction is over the merchant's floor limit and the transaction is invalid, the responsibility for paying the transaction falls on the merchant's shoulders.

So, assuming there was no error on ePassporte's end (for example, the card wasn't placed on hold), the merchant in question most likely never requested an authorization for the transaction.

Kimmykim 05-05-2004 10:23 PM

psykho :)

You know way too much about how systems work :)

However, in ePassporte, you cannot use a Virtual Visa for a non-virtual transaction without attempting forced authorization.

We request a reverse on those :)

Drop me an email paparazzi and I'll go over the details of how this is will work out.

kelly 05-05-2004 10:24 PM

Here in the UK (and the European countries I've used it in), if you have a Visa debit card the amount is checked against your account even if it's only 10 pence and if there are insufficient funds the transaction won't be authorised by the card issuer.

I sure hope I know how it works... it's what I get paid for :winkwink:

That's interesting about the virtual card. I'm not 100% familiar with those as they (along with check cards and pre-paid cards) do not exist in Canada.

Does ePassporte have a zero-liability policy?

bufferover 05-05-2004 10:28 PM

That's realy sux ask them to chage your virtual card number and next time don't use that number for buying on net

That would make the virtual number virtually useless ;)

If YOU do not have an ePassporte account by now and have not read the terms, you need to drop me an email and I'll start you one myself :)

hehehe... *hangs head in shame*

when i joined spotbrokers, i was under the impression an ePassporte account was set up for me. however, when i tried to login to it, i apparently had the wrong password. i never got a virtual visa number, so i'm assuming an account wasn't set up.

what's your email address? kimmykim (at) epassporte.com? what info do you need from me?

Kimmykim 05-05-2004 11:12 PM

It's [email protected] -- drop me an email and we'll get this figured out by morning :)

DreamCumTrue 05-05-2004 11:15 PM

It will be resolved, I just don't make a point of discussing specific account information on message boards, I'd rather go over it with paparazzi and he can tell you what he would like you to know about it :)
