What do you put on a personal website without looking like an ass or a dweeb?

What do you put on a personal website without looking like an ass or a dweeb?

If you don't want to gloat or do something silly like just a bunch of family pictures, what do you do?

There must be some interesting ideas out there.

Oh, no porn.

bcooter 05-04-2004 10:43 PM

just post your opinions on world events, and tell your funny stories.

well, thats a blog, but, its a personal site, that doesnt make you look like a dweeb.

detoxed 05-04-2004 10:44 PM

blogmaverick.com is pretty sweet I think

herbal logic 05-04-2004 10:44 PM

talk about how you like meat, can't go wrong:thumbsup

EviLGuY 05-04-2004 10:44 PM

Good question.. I've thought about this myself. Everything seems cliched, lame, or like bragging.

Illicit 05-04-2004 10:45 PM

depends what your into... I put pics from baseball games and cars on mine... nothing great.

Rick Latona 05-04-2004 10:46 PM

To be honest, I don't have the time nor the desire to keep a blog. I'm looking for something interesting that I can throw up and leave up.

NickPapageorgio 05-04-2004 10:46 PM

No pics of yourself sunburned to shit in the bahamas for shure...

herbal logic 05-04-2004 10:47 PM

who's the last one laughing?

KaLi 05-04-2004 10:47 PM

Make a list of links to places you like.

chodadog 05-04-2004 10:48 PM

Like someone already mentioned, just post your opinion about things.

My two favourite personal sites of that nature:

http://maddox.xmission.com
http://www.misanthropic-bitch.com

NickPapageorgio 05-04-2004 10:49 PM

I like what that Chernobyl girl did. She kind of took something that was just hers in her life and told a story about it. I think things like that are interesting.

That sounds like a lot of work.

I have a personal site .. its mostly a mini blog and a photoalbum .. I used to have a slambook up there .. which was a list of crazy questions that my friends answered .. that was pretty cool .. I just started a moblog at textamerica.com .. it instantly publishes pictures from your cellphone .. its pretty cool and takes zero time to update

Rick Latona 05-04-2004 10:51 PM

Hey, I was just looking at personal sites and I noticed that people are calling video web logs, vogs. I own vogs.com. :) I should do something with that domain.

Jamdin 05-04-2004 11:00 PM

Build the site around what you like to do for fun. If your hobbies are model trains and go-carts, then incorporate those two items into your site. How? Take pictures of your trains and go-carts. hahahahaha about your experiences such as the time you built your first model train. Fill out the site with links to other sites dealing with your hobbies and maybe put up a few ads selling "How-to" books/videos/etc.

Or you could just put "Graystroke: A Family Outing" and fill it with your family photos to Africa. :Graucho

Nice! I sold blogs.com about a year ago. Video logs are gaining momentum. Good luck.

As far a personal site...
What do you want to tell the world?

NickPapageorgio 05-04-2004 11:04 PM

NickPapageorgio 05-04-2004 11:06 PM

I'm seeing both. Vogs is certainly an easier word to say. If I make a site on it, I could swing it my way. :)

Paul Markham 05-04-2004 11:55 PM

We just put a bio on who we were and what we do, I have to say running a personal site would bore me. The Internet is to make money.

I would say just funny stuff, or unfortunate things that happen like a ticket or so. Drinking stories, stories about hooking up, getting shot down... Stuff that the average guy does. Dont post anything about income or the car you drive etc. Think of the average guy... He's probally a few pounds over weight, watches alot of tv, drives a loafer etc.. you want to appeal to them I would say. I hope this helps Rick. Does this qualify me for a traffic deal from Marc?
LOL j/k :thumbsup

I've always thought that this guy was the biggest ass, and in the end, I was right. But you too could have a cool personal homepage if you paid enough flash developers and threw enough money at it. :1orglaugh

the best personal (opinion) page in the world
http://maddox.xmission.com/

I'd do something like that if I was to make a personal page.

Everyone I give my personal URL to already knows I'm a dweeb, so it doesn't matter :thumbsup
