Does anyone do their work on an offline computer
I think that's what I need to do. I get distracted so fucking easily, I do 30 seconds of work then fuck around online for 10 minutes. GFY and Google Image Search have really hampered my work ethic. Is working in my car on a laptop on Diamond Head where there's no Wireless LAN and no cellphone reception the only way to get shit done? Opinions please.

offline? (panick'd look) you mean like not connected to the internet.... I'd suffer withdrawal.

Probably because it sounds a lot like me. that 1 hour block (now 1 1/2 for me cause of Aqua Teen Hunger Force) is a real time bleeder. |

I sometimes take the laptop out to a park or coffee shop and do my coding and reply to emails. When I get back home I plug back in and upload eveything.
Keeps me focused. If I loose my internet connection I pull out a directional antenna and point it down the street and pickup some other schmuck's wireless connection. Got caught once and got sent a network broadcast message. Must have been some Network Geeks house. :Graucho http://www.buffalotech.com/wireless/.../WLEHGDYG.html |
I run an air gap network at the home office for my other projects, it insures mainly that any data that shouldn't be exposed to the rest of the world won't unless I make a conscious effort to do so.
Also, those machines never see any downtime from viruses or other security threats, mind you there is AV software just in case. The only real security threat is with the computer being stolen, but they must first deal with the dog and the Remington 870 . :1orglaugh But I digress, its not hard working on a computer with no connection, cold turkey is a little hard at first, just make sure your stand alone box has everything you need to get your job done without reverting to your connected machine. Hope this helps! :thumbsup |
