Ebay loser threatened winner's wife with gun
A BLOKE WHO was outbid by a man on ebay travelled half-way across America and pointed a gun at the winner?s wife, it's alleged.
Gerald Newburger, who lives in New Orleans, travelled all the way to New York to threaten Robert Malinovsky in a dispute about used brass band uniforms. Newburger was outbid by Malinovsky on a 480-piece wardrobe of second-hand band and dance uniforms. Undeterred Newburger kept trying to bid offline. According to m?learned prosecutors Newburger exchanged e-mails and phone calls with Malinovsky for several months trying to convince him to sell. When that didn?t work Newburger, prosecutors say he decided to resolve matters using his constitutional right to bear arms. He broke into Malinovsky's home but the successful bidder was out and so Newburger threatened his wife with the gun instead. Unable to find the uniforms he left. Police found Newburger in a taxi 30 minutes afterwards on his way back to the train station. He had a handgun. Through his lawyers, Newburger, admitted to being in the Malinvosky home, but denied he waved his gun at Malinovski?s wife. Apparently it just fell out of his briefcase when he reached inside it for a piece of paper, he claimed. He faces charges of burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, and coercion. His trial is scheduled for May 10 and he faces a mandatory term of 5-25 years in prison if found guilty. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15658 :Graucho |

I must admit that I've had visions of smacking the crap out of someone that outbid me for a rare item or two, but threatening with a gun? That's insane!

If you get outbid it's your own fault for not bidding the highest amount you were willing to pay or for not waiting until the last second to post your bid.
Sniping is the rule on Ebay. |
I always lose items at the last minute on Ebay.
They should change their auction system a bit, and don't let the auction end until there hasn't been a bid for like 5 mins, after the time the auction was supposed to end. IE: Auction ends at 7pm..someone bids at 6:59.. it pushes back the timer to 7:04, etc, until everyone is out. Good for people selling, and would get rid of sniping. |
Looks like he really wanted those uniforms badly...
Makes me laugh: My gun fell out of my briefcase :1orglaugh What dumbass. |

2. Sniping is all well and good WHEN eBay's fucking servers work properly. But their servers fart alot and then you can't snipe in time. Or your own ISP goes down, or the baby's screaming at the end of the auction, or a storm knocks your power out, or whatever. There are obviously alot of other circumstances that can cause problems with sniping, bidding, etc. It's frustrating. It's definately not worth waving a gun at someone over, but when you lose a hard to find item that you want pretty badly it can really damage your spirit. And I swear, there have been 2 or 3 times when I would have popped someone in the nose if they'd been in the same room with me when they outbid me, like when I got outbid for a Christmas gift for my daughter 2 weeks before Christmas and it was the only item of its kind like it on eBay in many months. She was a very disappointed girl that Christmas. That's why I don't eBay much, anymore. The want of "stuff" can become obsessive and it's just not worth it. |
