How many air miles per dollar does your credit card give you?

my american express gives me 1.5 miles (air canada) per canadian dollar - plus a 10% bonus at the end of the month - depending on where the exchange rate is I'm getting about 2.5 air miles for every US dollar spent.

coach return flights to the usa from canada are 25,000 miles and first class is 40,000 miles with air canada. miles can be transfered to other airlines with some limits...

shit -putting my bandwidth on that card i'm at the top of the air canada aeroplan rewards program now and i havn't even had the card a full month yet!

i'll never have to pay for another flight!

my visa only give me 1 aeroplan mile for every canadian dollar spent.

awesome. i've got 31 miles :)
the only reason i have them is because my primus phone bill earns me air miles.
i'd have a lot more, but i never carry my card with me.

also, airmiles goes waaaay further in terms of flights. no, you can't get first class with airmiles, but i'm only going to be using these miles for overseas flights - and every overseas flight i've ever been on has been at least equal to business class domestically... i can fly back and forth to Australia 5 times with my current miles :)

nice.

consider aeroplan on american express though, i think you're in the same ballpark (give or take a few grand) as i am bandwidth wise, i get just under the equivalant of 2 first class US flights a month with my spending levels - or almost one first class overseas flight a month. plus with the top reward level i get companion tickets and upgrade certificates.

somehow i expected you to have a lot more than 40,000 airmiles miles......

and if i don't use the miles i still get upgrades and front of the line service for being platnuim as well.

you guys should check out the new Merrill Lynch rewards card. One mile per dollar with 25,000 needed to fly domestic. One key perk: If you charge over $50k a year you get four free nights at any Ritz Carlton worldwide.

cool, but spending what i do over 2 miles per dollar US is a better deal.....

Kimmykim 05-03-2004 11:50 AM

depends on what I buy with the card. If I pay for a flight, I get 2 bucks per mile, plus the 1.5 per mile credit for flying on the plane. If it's certain hotels or restaurants I get up to 5 miles per buck I spend.

Other things I get I think a buck per mile.

i think amex doubles the miles when buying flights too. insane
