Ever wonder what someone worth twice Bill Gates drives

Sam Walton drove this. If he were still alive today, he'd be worth more than double what Bill Gates is worth. The Forbes top 10 richest people numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are there because of him. Yet he drove this. Crazy.

Not at all, I agree with Ironhorse.

You don't get rich by spending a lot of money on toys that depreciate 50% when you drive em off the lot. ;)

I think someone said that he is not rich cos he drove this car. That is only partly true. The reason Walton has been successful is that he leads a frugal life and does not waste money. This attitude gave him the initial capital to set up his business and allowed rapid expansion.

If you are interested in how million+ net wealth individuals really spend their money, read "The Millionaire Next Door." The book is based on interviews and surveys of about 3000 1 mil+ people. Walton is actually a fairly typical wealthy person. the most popular car amongst this group is a ford pickup! the author hypothesises that they like this cos the car has a high wieght to cost ratio and it is practical.

Alternatively, you can listen to BS from people on this board who are blowing all their cash or spending on credit and will eventually be unable to sustain their lifestyles.... but they don't think this is the case cos they are 'pimps' and are convinced that internet porn will be easy forever.

Too bad Sam Walton is already six feet under.

What's wrong with driving that pickup? It took him from point a to point b just fine. Low key and unassuming. And I bet it wasn't even a new pickup truck. That guy watched his pennies which is one of the reasons why he ended up with so many.

Plus Sam Walton lived in Bentonville Arkansas population 19,000. You think he needed to impress anyone in that small of a town with everyone already knowing he was a multi-billionaire and owned fuckin Wal-Mart.

Nothing at all is wrong with that. I had always heard the story of how he drove an old pickup truck, and I found this picture and figured I would post it. Warren Buffett (Number 2 on the Forbes Richest People List) drives an old VW from the 60s, and still lives in the same house hes lived in for over 30 years, and it's worth around $300,000. My aunt and uncle who live in Bellevue, close to where Gates lives, used to see him at Godfather's Pizza, which is about as upscale as Pizza Hut, until he started getting death threats. I just find that type of thing really interesting. :glugglug

The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley &, William D. Danko :thumbsup :thumbsup

I really can't see how all these guys on the board buy everything new, I'd really like a Corvette, but you're nuts if you think I will lay down $60+K for the new C6, I would much rather buy some dude that either can't pay for his, or the new toy factor has worn off.

V_RocKs 05-03-2004 03:33 AM

Its not what you are driving, it's who is driving you around. Get the wrong driver and you are in for a world of hurt.
