So the question then becomes "Do you need to offer highly explicit, 'free samples' as a means of trying to sell more porn?" From the looks of most "free sites," the answer is "yes" ? but "most" is not "all."

Well, its true. But there is so much free porn out there, it seems as if a lot of surfers now expect high quality free porn before they join.

I like this part: be "Playboy" on the outside, and "Hustler" on the inside... I bet you'll see more sales!

I believe that free porn has had a big hand in the booming of the internet. Without free porn the we wouldn't be as big as it is now. :2 cents:

when gallery submitting i usually have 35 hi-res pics and 1 text link that says More FREE Porn that leads to my hub where all the galleries have at least 50 hi res pics and no adverts, i find this distreacts the surfer from the pics.....:2 cents:

Because of the nature of the Net you simply can't control the distribution of free porn.

A lot of webmasters started out just by having sites to offer other surfers their collections of scanned porn pics from magazines. Then they realized there was a way to make money at it by selling traffic for pennies to ppc companies in the early days.

You can still make money with the free stuff around and even by distributing lots of free stuff, just have to figure out the angles and there are some clever angles that not many people have figured out yet.

Its true, back when TGPs were rare and it was just picposts, sales were great. Now that theres so much free porn its a hell of a lot harder :2 cents:

Its harder to convert because the surfer is afraid to join cause of the $39.99 recurring hahahahahaha cutter sites out there. They want to see samples so they know that they are getting their moneys worth.

yeah, but most gallery builders are too fucking stupid to understand what "sample" means.........if you want to sample an ice cream flavor at Baskin Robins, they give you one of those little wooden spoons, not a shovel...

This makes sense.

For a pay site, instead of being "Playboy" on the outside and "Hustler" on the inside, be censored Hustler on the outside and uncensored Hustler on the inside. You can let them know exactly what you have without letting them enjoy any of it. For example, ExtremeHole.com

I agree in principle that giving away less free content might increase sales, however its just not practical in today's marketplace.

It's similar to car dealers saying that if none of them were willing to negotiate, then everyone would have to pay sticker price for the cars and they'd make more money.
This in principle is true, but due to the competitive nature of the marketplace there would always be someone (more likely several someones) willing to cut the prices to steal business from their competition.

In this business our commodity is traffic, and we all work hard to try and get and keep as much traffic as we possibly can so we can convert it into sales.
If we cut out the reason the traffic comes to our sites (free content) then there will inevitably be someone else out there offering the content to take the traffic from you.

You can't just sit on your soapbox and cry foul while your competition puts you out of business. You do what you have to do to make a living.

When we got rid of all graphic nudity on our site sales doubled. IF I can jerk off for hours to graphic free pics whats the motivation to join?
