U.S. news media say an internal military investigation has found U.S. Army officers and CIA agents encouraged the abuse of Iraqi prisoners.

The report in the latest edition of The New Yorker Magazine says the still-classified investigation found "sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses" at the Abu Ghraib prison.

The U.S. Army reserve general in charge of the soldiers accused of abuse, says she suspects the suspects were encouraged by military intelligence.

The account appeared to confirm claims by the human rights group Amnesty International that the alleged torture is not an isolated incident.

You got to keep in mind another factor is these Iraqi POW's are captured many times from areas where US Soldiers have been ambushed or killed. So the troops handling these guys are pissed the fuck off about losing their buddies and want payback.

Like I've posted before I went through the Vietnam era and a lot of family friends came back with stories so horrific that they couldn't even talk about it without breaking down or going into mental relapses. The US troops were blowing away villages, little kids, napalming people, torturing the Viet Cong prisoners, etc. And the NVC were doing the same thing to the South Vietnamese and our troops.

But yeh the Intel guys have no compassion for POW's. Some of the stories I head from Nam veterans that witnessed CIA guys extracting info were as gruesome as anything Saddam did to his people.

The reason no one knows if he was alive or dead is because their was NO rescue attempted made for him, Chenny declared him dead the day after the war started on national TV, his name was not on the Red Cross prisoners list for release, nor was he ever listed as a possible P.O.W. he was however declared M.I.A, from K.I.A not long ago, and the intelligence from both analysis of the crash site, and other events from that night (radio squelch on the pilot emergency radio that was believed to be from an intruder pilot that was downed the same night, but he said he lost his radio) to the items that was returned from Iraq claiming to be remains of Scott (pilot uniform that was to old, 1 pound of human flesh that was remains of someone from iran-iraq war)
To prisoners at abu Ghurayb who claimed to have seen him, not to mention that pictures taken of the crash site show human made signs that are similar to ones that pilots are trained to make... etc
there is a lot of evidense he was alive after the crash....

The military needs to stop allowing soldiers to bring cameras with them. Did they learn nothing from somalia

According to at least one of the articles, some of the people being abused were Iraqi civilian suspects - not suspected Iraqi military, but people suspected of being thieves, looting, etc.

And how all this make HIM a torture victim as you seem to claim....?

This from a person who possibly identified scott with keywords given to him, and repeated to the CIA.

This doesn't make Michael "Scott" Speicher a torture victim as you seem to imply, and that that fact would justify the ACTUAL D-O-C-U-M-E-N-T-ED torture of prisonners.

The rest is all as said " possible", as possible as Al Mousawi inventing or repeating stuff to get rewards from the US government. Remember, US gives rewards for info, even wrong one leading to unjustified wars.

Saddam got like 5 prisoners during the war and last I checked they wheren't tortured.

and when I was a Marine my superiors said they'd bust a cap in their own heads before they were taken prisoner after they torture stories they heard about the last time we fought Iraq.

This is how you get "Dentist" treatment in Iraq when you're a prisoner of War, and you got your teeth broke with a rifle butt.
McNab, and his men that were captured were beaten with poles, hosepipes and rifes,electrocuted, and tortured on a daily basis.
