Thomas Hamill escapes Iraqi captors

Here you got a real hero:
http://us.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/0...ain/index.html

Anyone know if there is any way to donate some money to this guy and his family?

"Every potential employee receives very specific warnings about the dangers of working in a war zone."

"Hamill, a struggling Mississippi dairy farmer, decided to sell his herd last September and take a high-paying but dangerous job as a truck driver in Iraq."

he has a responsibility to his family to not work in a "war zone"

I hate shit like this.

They are already calling him "a hero"

heros dont fucking get captured.

"``Tommy is a courageous hero and we are proud of his resolve, resilience and refusal to give up hope,'' according to a company statement on its Web site.

Hamill's wife, Kellie, told the Associated Press that she spoke with her husband by telephone early Sunday and said it was ``the best wake-up call I've ever had.''

``There has been a lot of praying and I am so grateful to everybody,'' she told AP. ``We're all so relieved, so excited.''

His hometown of Macon, Mississippi, held nightly vigils for Hamill and set up a fund to help the family.

``We're going to have a parade that never ends, and maybe a picnic,'' said Macon, Mississippi Mayor Dorothy Baker Hines. "

oh great, they are going to have a PARADE that will NEVER END and a picnic!

i'd do it for the bling, and slap anyone upside the head that tried calling me a hero...

yeah, i'm a hero, to my fucking bank account :2 cents:

corvette 05-02-2004 09:36 AM

i agree, im glad that he was able to escape, however, it appears that he found a opportunity and took it...he was able to escape a situation that he placed himself into, other people were not as fortunate.

"Hamill went missing with six other KBR employees. Four of them have been found dead: Geoff Parker, Jack Montague, Steven Hewlitt and Tony Johnson. "

why do you think that they are paying 80K+ to drive a truck in a war zone?...there is a greater "risk" there

AllisonWonderland 05-02-2004 09:44 AM

He's no more a hero than Jessica Lynch.

the REAL heros stay home and take care of their families - 'cause no one else will. the guys who want the extra bucks, or need to feel they're heros leave their families - risking that if they don't come back, no one will take care of their familes.

I think his motives were to look after his family, his wife had just had major surgery
Hamill fought hard to keep the dairy business that had been in his family for three decades, working long, exhausting hours to pay off loans to the Merchants & Farmers Bank, friends said.
But he needed to find a way to raise his two young children and pay for heart surgery needed by his wife, Kellie.

might want to check the fucking facts before you slander someone dickhead.

oh to suggest that he was motivated by greed to go to Iraq, and that he didn't give a crap about family isn't slander?

slander
n 1: words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another
2: an abusive attack on a person's character or good name [syn: aspersion, calumny, defamation, denigration]
v : charge falsely or with malicious intent; attack the good name and reputation of someone; "

we are just voicing our opinions about something that we saw on the news, nothing slanderous about it?

never suggested that he was motivated by greed, although I see were you are coming from

people make choices in life, he made a choice to be in a very risky profession in return for money?.imo, a man with a family should make his choices with certain factors that completely eliminate that profession from being a feasible option?.for instance, a relatively strong (compared to a mechanic for instance) likelihood that you will get hurt/killed?ie working in a live war zone)

never suggested he was motivated by greed? perhaps you didn't read this part:
the guys who want the extra bucks, or need to feel they're heros leave their families -

So tell me is there a lot of jobs paying $80K to ex-dairy farmers in your area, allowing people to make money fast to pay for their wife's surgery?
I think in the same situation you would do any job to do the same, he never asked for your fucking pity, nor your money, so why defame him?
