What if you setup a site that only took online checks, how do you think sales would be compared to taking credit cards?

Just an oppinion, but the only instance when someone pays by online check is when they do not have a cc. Most people do not want to give out their checking account info.

the only upside to checks is its much harder for the customer to dispute.

There are check guarantee services out there that will, as they sound like they do, guarantee checks.

You would probably see a 75% decrease in sales.

Ok, what about Mastercard and checks, no visa?

THere is a thread from a while ago last yr where someone did that and the numbers where close to the same as with cc. If you have a unique site with exclusive content then I think your chances of them signing up if check is the only option go up greatly. If its the same old tired shit , I see no motivation.

Even though I sell the checking option :) I'd suggest if you want to try this, still make the CC option available. Many of our customers have done well making the check option the FIRST option available and pushing it hard on the join page, but still offering the CC option.

Note that WTS ONLY charges processing fees on the GOOD checks. This makes us do everything possible to make sure the check goes through including having an inhouse collections department.

Probilling offers something called directcheck. I've had NO checks returned NFS while using this, so far :)

What about all of the people in UK/AU/NZ and lots of EU that have a CC, but (for obvious reasons) no USA checking account?

I would like to see someone implement a system similar to the old Globill check . Which gave a 7 day delay period before allowing access to the site after making payment. This allowed the check to clear yet gave automatic access after the 7 day period. It was very popular with our traffic and easily as popular as our current check system which still allows void or revoked checks of more than 10%

I'm 99.9% positive we can do that....I'll check (no pun intended :winkwink: ).

i have a nice exclusive and unique site that does take checks only as of now
i have people mailing me, begging to get access via CC,...
the ratios are at about 1:800 which is not THAT bad on checks only
but still
it kills the whole foreign market!

i dont want to stop earning on europeans and candians
and putting up dialers for them is not what i really want!

all the paysite owners i've talked to get over 40% checks returned. taking only checks allows surfers free access for two or three days before that happens.

Taking Visa is a must. As tony404 said, you might be able to get away with it if you have exclusive, unique content that is very hard to find on the internet. Your still losing out on alot of customers though, not taking Visa.

It has been done and the first month you will see a decrease but after that you will do the same amount of business. Anyone willing to give their CC # online will give their Checking account number.
