The worse of two evils.

Which is worse:

A: Living a lie with your friends and family by not telling them what you do in the Adult Internet business.

B: Losing friends and family members by telling them what you do in the Adult Internet business.

None of this B.S. about if they were true friends bla bla bla......Fuck all that...The bottom line is that this business can and does cost people friendships all the time.

So......Better to live a lie or better to be yourself and maintain fewer non-industry friends?

Juicy D. Links 05-01-2004 06:06 PM

hmm tough choice

WebmasterAdvertising 05-01-2004 06:07 PM

Tell some people dont tell other people...

nathan_f 05-01-2004 06:08 PM

if they cant accept you for what you do, fuck em.

SilverTab 05-01-2004 06:09 PM

I think B is better....because even if you chose A...they might discover it...and you'll end up in case B.....

psyko514 05-01-2004 06:10 PM

Are you really living a lie by not telling them?

Paul Waters 05-01-2004 06:10 PM

I am a photographer...

...how far past that it goes is up to them

Digipimp 05-01-2004 06:10 PM

SleazyDream 05-01-2004 06:10 PM

PenisFace 05-01-2004 06:10 PM

If you've got friends that are so uptight that they don't like porn, then tell em. I couldn't be friends with someone that didnt agree with what i did for a living :)

It'd be like if your dating one of those enviornmental types.. If you told her your car uses gas, she'd leave you. Same thing applies. You can't be friends with someone that disagree's with something that your life revolves around.

As far as family is concerned, just don't tell the ones that would disagree with it. Unless you don't like them :Graucho

That was not the question.

I'm pretty sure this falls under "None of this B.S. about if they were true friends bla bla bla."

How about thinking about your answers for once?

Basic_man 05-01-2004 06:11 PM

Evil Chris 05-01-2004 06:12 PM

Are you personally having this problem, or are you just asking in general?

This is not about what they do or don't like. People who like porn still have a problem with a pornographer dating their daughter.

it just seems that's pretty much what it comes down to, why would you want to exclude that answer though?

I think it is safe to say that this question has presented itself to all of us at one time or another.

Most of my friends and family know what I do but I have also seen it effect my personal life in negative ways so it occasionally makes one wonder if they made the right choice by telling others in the first place.

Overall, it is just a topic of discussion. The bottom line is I am comfortable with my own decision on this matter. I appreciate your concern though. :thumbsup

Because that is the easy way out and by taking it, you have stopped thinking as an individual and are following the rest of the herd of sheep.

Evil Chris 05-01-2004 06:20 PM

Well, the question is "Which is worse?".

And I would have to go with B.

fair 'nuff

boardersweetie 05-01-2004 06:23 PM

I say you stick with A, except don't outright lie to people. If they ask what you do, say you're a photographer or whatever and unless they ask for more detail, there's no reason to share it. Then it's not really lying, is it?

doober 05-01-2004 06:24 PM

It will always be a catch 22 with pitfalls on both sides.
In the end you must do what your comfortable with

I think I can help you out here.

I think a person has to keep business and family seperate. Your business is your business alone and talking about it and telling other people from whom you cannot earn money has no purpose but to: a) make yourself feel proud and show off, b) satisfy someone's needless curiosity

Business is Business Family is Family.

Business is about making money. talking to family will not in anyway help you make more money, therefore in my mind it is illogical and useless.

THis is there it ends, once you realize this and you make yourself believe it, you will save yourself alot of trouble, because you are going to be in control over who finds out about what you do.

if you tell family and friends, people you don't want to know will find out becuase it's not up to you to tell but you have to trust that someone will keep his/her mouth shut. you can't trust anyone fully but yourself, especially when it comes to something like having an old fashioned family and your mother getting a heart attack when she finds out that you're a "digital pimp"

:thumbsup keep your mouth shut

You and I both know that saying you are a photographer will only lead to more questions. The more vague you try to be, the more questions people will ask.

Nothing wrong with lying. Why go through the hassles? Especially if you're single and meet someone who is a real keeper?

I tell people I run an online petstore.
I bought a template for a petstore ($14) and just put links to real products with real petstores. I dont do shit, the site doesn't make a dime, it's just a good cover.

who needs to lie just tell them you deal in internet traffic... :Graucho

You have a good point, but some people don't really go into business stuff too much so it's just hit or miss.

If I told 100 people that I run a coffee shop, 98 of them are going to ask me what kind of coffe I serve. It's human nature to question things.
