like a virtual sex machine for example.

btw this is not the product im thinking of

IDEO (www.ideo.com) and Frog Design (www.frogdesign.com) are at the top of the food chain when it comes to this type of work.

I can point you in the direction of a very qualified firm that are a little more down to earth and affordable. They also have in-house design and prototyping capabilities.

If you would like their contact info, ICQ me at 168455758.

I'm honored to even be a part of the conversation, as in being the "standard" things are compared to.

Being recognized for one's work holds a greater feeling of satisfaction than a big pile of money.
(But I'll take the money too!)

Is there anything we can do to help? Our product IS manufactured in the USA, and carries the "proudly Manufactured in the United States of America" label.

If your product is adult in nature, I fear you will not make much progress with those companies. And IDEO, which is a brilliant company, is definitely Top shelf. They aren't likely to work with anyone under a million dollars.

I'm kindof in the same boat. But I lack the resources to really take it to outside designers. The idea is solid, but for som of it I'm using rhino3d and a cad program to deisgn certain pieces myself.

In my opinion sketches and diagrams will get you everywhere in conceptual stages.

Sorry can't help you here. Goodluck though!

I'm studying mechanical engineering, what kind of help do you need?

robfantasy 05-01-2004 05:56 AM

i have a billion dollar idea, but im kinda stuck as to what to do with it..

at what point do u apply for the patent, do you apply in development phase. or after its complete?

how can u keep the engineers from cutting you out of the loop when they have to create it.

i can probably scrape together a prototype using parts of other existing products, but then i need it re engineered as 1.

im ready to drop everything for this project because i know this is the goldmine i have been seeking. it just hit me and i cant stop thinking about anything else.

ive done preliminary research and found no existing product on the market.

anyone else have experience in this sort of stuff.

Good luck. Its a daunting task and you'll need a lot of lock.

20 years ago I invented an error correcting modem. At the time there were no real practical devices on the market. I created the design, programmed the microcode, wire-wrapped prototypes, and then hired engineering firms with real engineers to slick up my design a little and make it more stable.

In the end, the whole effort collapsed. Too much effort and money would have been needed, and I lost interest. I think about 4 years later companies like Hayes and U.S. Robotics started mass producing the same concept and made a killing off of it.

robfantasy 05-01-2004 06:44 AM

did u patent it?

what caused it to fail?

Shoehorn! 05-01-2004 06:55 AM

One time I saw one of those commercials for the Patent Submission service or whatever, you know, the ones where you call a number and they send you a packet and you tell them your idea, and they patent it for you. Anyway, I drew all these complex schematics and pictures and stuff, and I said it was a time machine. They never got back to me, but boy was that funny. :glugglug

You better have some pretty deep pockets when it come 2 protecting a patent.

most people just give up when they find someone or company has volitated there patent.

I did some but it was in the Scale Ind. Design, prototyping, testing and Mfg.
