Now, I am not Mr. Super Patriot and everything (I never thought the Iraq invasion was a good idea) but I always had pride in the capabilities of US armed forces. That's why I am confused by the US' pullout (some spin it as "partial") out of Fallujah.

Once again, US doesn't think coming in... gets resistance... feels political heat... pulls out. Sound fucking familiar? Yeah, it should--I just described Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia, and now... Fallujah.

What the fuck? Like it says in the movie APOCALYPSE NOW "Don't get off the boat, unless you're prepared to go all the way."

They aren't 'giving up' anything. They just switched out the areas with the Iraqi military for a holding action. It isn't like we conceeded the areas to the insurgents.

Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, coalition deputy operations chief, insisted the Marines were not "withdrawing" from Fallujah, one of the most hostile cities in the tense Sunni Triangle, but were simply "repositioning."


Asked if the Marines were leaving, Kimmitt replied: "Nothing could be further from the truth." He said the Marines would maintain a strong presence "in and around Fallujah."

Hardly any Australians are descended from convicts. This country was flooded with free settlers during the 1800's. In the 1900's it was flooded with migrants from all over Europe, and later, from S.E. Asia. Australia is just as multicultural as the U.S.A., if not more so. My heritage is primarily German/Danish.
