Backing up Content

I was wondering how everybody backs up all their content for their sites, including all the pictures from their paysites? The amount of data I have has been growing and keeping a copy of the data between PC's isn't cutting it anymore. I have 6 PC's all with huge hard drives and it's start to become tedious. I was thinking of purchasing a backup drive and backing up the data on tape.

Since content generally doesn't change (the files themselves), get yourself one of these and as many harddrives and extra trays as you need. Back it all up once, and put it on the shelf for when you need one. Personally, I keep 4 copies of everything.

Done.

not the best solution when you have a terabyte worth of content to back up. :2 cents:

i did that in the past but that's even worse than storing it on multiple PC's.....your closet must be filled with CD's. that's a little to messy for me

i think i'm in love with this one: multi-bay drive

i have one of those too.... I strongly DON'T recommend it. I could never get all the drives to work at the same time, and sometimes trying to hahahahaha new data to one drive actually erased another.

I have mine sitting in the closet right now collecting spiders. It never did function correctly.

I have 6 Maxtor drives... 4 of them have crashed and I lost EVERYTHING that was on them. :feels-hot

Not many weeks go by that we are not asked to send another FTP email because someone lost their Hard Drive.

We back everything up, when it's shot or scanned and again when it's corrected.

Check this out: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=277613

Obviously not a good solution for video or anyone requiring TB's of storage however it looks like a good option for backing up 250 GB's or less.

I would recommend this one :

Currently I use their 500 gigabyte drive, but this one will be released next month!

just get a like 10+ 200GB HD and a couple of external enclosures and you all set to go

what if your host says they have weekly backup?

(i.e. webair)

what are they really backing up?

i have my sites on my computer hard drive that are identical to my server. my host also backs up my server but i also backup my computer hard drives...you can never be too safe....and if your computer hard drive crashes it's a bitch downloading all that data from your server onto your hard drive through the WAN. it's better to have a copy locally.
