Question regarding Videos in members area's [pics][videos][drama]
 

You have 2000 or licensed dvd's in streaming format , not talking about the bs plug in crap you see all the time.

Now , of course the streams cant be downloaded and geared for broadband surfers. I am assuming it would be advisable to encode the dvd's or at least a good qty of them in mpeg or comparable format for download cause I know some people prefer to downlaod rather than stream.

Thoughts?

Mpeg is for sure the best thing to have... people that sign up to movie paysite most prolly have high speed internet and they want instantenous viewing.

Any form of movie file that allows instant view/download is preferrable. It will recurr more thats is a given.

I always offer both downloadable & streaming.

MPEG-1 and WMV all the way. I hate Real with a passion... and so do many surfers. Tried installing Real Player recently? 10 seconds to install... 15 minutes to navigate through the ads & uncheck all the spyware and useless shit that comes with default installation.

If you're worried about Kazaa, edonkey etc... you can watermark the videos. It won't stop the file sharers but at least people will know where the videos have come from. And there is less chance that other webmasters will steal your videos for their own use unless they're willing to clip off your watermark - it's a lot of work to remove watermarks or put your own over the top because the videos need to be re-encoded.

Other than that, look into DRM.

DRM is the way to go. 1000kb/s WMV files streamed or downloaded.
