Quality video screen caps
Anyone have the secret to getting high-quality full-size (800X600 or better) vid caps from ripped DVDs? I already know how to get "good" vid caps (from SnagIt, etc., etc.), but now I need to know how to get the high-quality vid caps. Can anyone lead me in the right direction, por favor?

snag it does a better job than intervideo winDVD?

SnagIt is much quicker consdiering you can set it up to take a vid cap whenever yoiu decide...but the quakity is seriously lacking...IMO, of course.

IT obviously depends who good the ripped dvd's were to start with, if they are avi's then there is not much chance of getting a real high quality output from them. If you have the mpegs then Powerdvd will give you some great screen grabs.

Well, look whos back on line :) Here's a bump for you bud.

Use VitualDubMod with VOB import support
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=72#comments put in ya dvd, do File/open video file browse to the dvd drive. choose the VideoTS folder, then you will see lots of VOBS which contain all of the chapters of the DVD. Choose the chapter, and double click once the chapter has loaded, use the scroll bar to select the image you want to rip. Press CTRL+1 open up photoshop, click file/new then EDIT/PASTE Note that the biggest image you can take from an NTSC dvd is this ratio 720x480 use the DEINTERLACE filter in photoshop to get rid of the jagged lines, then crop to your desired size. That should do what you want it to do. Nick |
EDIT... just re-read the post, if you want to rip images from already ripped dvd's, your restricted to the quality of the encoding and the resolution of the rip. The best quality grabs are always taken from the original DVD source, or even better the DV tape ;)

Thanks everyone. I know most of all the tips you gave, but some were helpful. I think the quality I'm looking for is straight from the DV source, so I'm SOL on that aspect.
Does anyone know how to get different sizes in PowerDVD? I can only get one size...720X480. RAY...thanks for the bump, d00d! :thumbsup Wait...that sounds like a drug reference. :Graucho |
