Chalabi lobbied the US government to invade Iraq?

Time to block payments to Chalabi?

Quote:

Washington, DC, Apr. 29 (UPI) -- A congressman is threatening to block U.S. payments to the Iraqi National Congress until it is determined if the group used the money to lobby the U.S. government to invade Iraq.

Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson said Thursday he will try to insert language into the Pentagon's 2005 spending bill to block the Defense Intelligence Agency's monthly payments of $340,000 to the group for intelligence services. The INC is led by the controversial Ahmed Chalabi.

Chalabi is a member of the Iraqi Governing Council and is popularly regarded as the Pentagon's pick to head Iraq after it regains sovereignty.
Iraq congress members under investigation.

Quote:

Members of the Iraqi National Congress and its leader Ahmed Chalabi were airlifted into southern Iraq the day Saddam?s government fell. Chalabi was President Bush?s guest at the State of the Union address. Even today, the INC gets $340,000 a month from the Pentagon to feed the United States intelligence information.

But NBC News has learned that members of the group are now under investigation by Iraqi police in Baghdad ? allegations of:

abduction
robbery
stealing 11 Iraqi government vehicles
assaulting police by firing on them during a search.

...

All this comes in the wake of findings that key intelligence on weapons of mass destruction provided by Chalabi?s group was false, perhaps even fabricated.

In fact, the former head of the weapons hunt, David Kay, questions why a group that provided ?fabricated information? is still on the U.S. payroll. ?You know, once taken, excused," says Kay. "Twice taken you?re an idiot. And I think we?re now at the point of we?re really an idiot.?
Why is Chalabi, a guy who's a thief and who'd have been rotting in prison in Jordan if it wasn't for the US, still in Iraq? Kick him out already.

Sure did! :thumbsup

You can always rely on a silver tongued charlaton and well-known conman to work well with other conmen who have a need to believe they have a God appointed mission :-)

Hell.. Chalabi was known for what he is - he was just accepted to justify stuff and say all the right words with the US Admin.

But again.. it was the same old story with Saddam when it suited, but he too, lost favor :winkwink:

All meaningless words from both sides involved - ya sure end up with strange bedfellows...

Since WHEN did the US NOT partner with scumbags in order to promote its interest?

Stop being purist pussies, the US will keep on using dirtbags to pursue its agenda.

Don't hate it... its just following a fine long tradition dating even earlier than the Roman Empire. Find a scumbag to rule an area, ditch him when he becomes too unruly.

Don't hate the PLAYER... hate the GAME.
