Patent Battle over Jpeg Compression
 

CYBERSPACE - If you thought the streaming media patent battle was intriguing, how about a patent battle over one of the Internet's core image compression technologies? That's what looks to be brewing now that the owner of the joint photographic experts group - that's .jpeg or .jpg, for you image hunters and makers and collectors - is suing a gross of companies for infringing the patent in question.

But it sucks that another company is suing for something common...

we need our own image type. .prn or something, which does nice fleshcolor compression :1orglaugh

shouldnt there be a limit on how long you can wait to spring this on people?

There are statutes of limitations on crimes, why not on copyrights.. as this is certainly criminal .. "allegedly" :)

I bet the folks at ACACIA would be more than willing to supply a list of the companies that settled with them...

I mean, if a company makes a "business decision" to settle with ACACIA, why not these guys too?
