I think I've got pneumonia, any point in going to the doctor?
The last week or so I've worked a lot on my aquariums, often in not more than some light pants and a t-shirt (it's a wet hobby), with windows wide open. Upon waking up two days ago I noticed a stabbing pain in the right side of my chest and I attributed it to sleeping in a no good position. However the pain still persists and I feel it is definitely in the lung rather than any sorrounding muscle tissue, and breathing causes a sharp pain.
As for the question... Is it ok to ride it out instead of going to the doctor? I am not a fan of use of antibiotics unless it is absolutely necessary, and I understand this is all the doctor give you for pneumonia any way. On the other hand, a lot of people used to die of untreated pneumonia in the old days. Any thoughts? |
If its that bad goto the doc...

|
go see a fucking Doc , pneumonia is nothing to mess around with if you have any belief it might be it....better safe than sorry

Stabbing chest pain could be indicative of many things. If it isn't going away for days, you best get your man boobs to a doctor and let them check things out.

In any case, how bad should it get before antibiotics are absolutely necessary (as I pointed out, this appears to be all the doctor can do for pneumonia)? As of now I feel just fine, as long as I breathe relatively carefully. |
you can die from pneumonia so i would recommend heading to quick care STAT

What are your other symptoms? Cough? Congestion? Shortness of breath? Fever?
Whatever your symptoms are...go to a Dr. It could be something as simple as pleursy that some NSAID's would clear up. Whatever...a simple chest x-ray will clear up the pneumonia issue. What's the point in going to the Dr. if you think you have pneumonia? Hmmmm....let me think....oh, yeah, people STILL die from untreated (and treated) pneumonia....it isn't a disease of the "olden ages" that people USE to succumb to. It still happens every single day. Just go to the frickin' Dr........mmmmkay? Trust me, I'm a nurse. :winkwink: Good luck. |
Go to the doctor, then you will know how bad it is.
Then you will be able to decide for yourself if you should take the medication or not. :2 cents: Milena Dickman |

Come to think of it, some of my fish have been wild-catched in Asia, so I'll set up an apointment tomorrow just in case it's something else. I handled their water after all.

Go to the doctor man, if you leave it to late you could end up in a serious way
|
thousands of people die from phenmonia each year

I'll second that as a former premed student and intern. People died frequently from pneumonia in the "old days" due to the lack of modern medical care. Since modern medical care is availble to you, why not take advantage? GO! |
Head to the doctor!
|
sounds like Bronchitis... go to doctor ASAP

Also, I read that untreated pneumonia has a 30% chance of killing you. Or in other words, 30% of the people who get pneumonia and don't treat it die. These 30% are mainly the weak and old. |
