The brilliant guy that invented the mouse didn't think it would survive, so he sold the patent for a couple of grand...

They're going to sue who, Mac? :1orglaugh

StuartD 04-29-2004 02:18 PM

Pretty soon, people are gonna patent the "on button" and "thinking about what you want to do."

I'm still waiting for some programmer to patent "hello world" and expect payment should anyone want to learn how to do programming... in each language.

Actually Yes but they thought it wouldnt go nowhere so it wasnt patented. The suits never realized they could have owned the pc industry.

rowan 04-30-2004 12:29 PM

I still remember Apple Lisa ads in Byte magazine in the early 80s that raved about the natural "pointing" method that a mouse used. I thought you aimed it at the screen. :1orglaugh

(well, I *was* only young...)

High Quality 04-30-2004 12:29 PM

Hehehehehe, niiiice

CabanaBoy 04-30-2004 05:07 PM

Do people even read links or do they just blindly accept what they see in the subject?

This patent has nothing to do with general double-clicking. Jesus fucking christ.

The patent is about having "Application" buttons on a handheld (PDA) and allowing the user to press them to re-launch the given app. If they hold down the button, the user is given multiple options such as launching the app with a new hahahahahahahaha, etc.

The idea is novel, and therefore is clearly patentable. It was originally filed with the patent office over five years ago.

Everymorning I get up and thank the IBM gods for inventing the pc, and NOT getting a patent on it.

Thank you IBM
