I Earned Some Serious Karma Points this morning - and it felt great!!!

I was at the Egg Platter having breakfast and there was a table of 4 soldiers sitting at the next booth. Two were American and two were British (I could tell by their uniforms and accents). We shared the same waitress so I asked her to bring me their check. I wrote on the check, "You've taken care of me, so I'm taking care of you. A warm hearted thanks to you all." and I paid their bill.

The part that made me feel good was when they went to leave they each individually stopped at my table, shook my hand and then gave me a firm salute! It was an awesome feeling! I had a brief chat with them all and they were a joint Marine detachment that just got back from Iraq. They were seriously pissed that they weren't there right now to help their comrades.

Karma feels so good! :)

iamkathi 04-29-2004 10:40 AM

I haven't done this for soldiers but I have done it for college kids and old folks sitting all alone. For me the coolest part was not letting them know who had done it.. The first time I tried this I told the waitress I'd leave her $20.00 on my $6.00 tab if she would just tell them their breakfast had been paid for. It was really cool to watch them try to figure out who they thought had been the one to pay their bill.

I get just random people from time to time. Usually it's at breakfast, I get them when they least expect it :winkwink:

fris 04-29-2004 10:40 AM

awesome job :)

MattO 04-29-2004 10:41 AM

Egg Platter rocks... mmmm I always eat the country fried steak and eggs, so much food for so little $$$

Someone did something very similar to me one time. I was pulling up to a toll booth and the attendent told me that the person in the car ahead of me already paid my toll.

That happened 7 years ago and it's still fresh in my mind. It's amazing how far a good gesture can go. :thumbsup

BlingDaddy 04-29-2004 11:26 AM

That's so awesome. Being former Air Force it means alot! I did that for some firefighters here one time and I still see them in our neighborhood from time to time....

:thumbsup

MrJackMeHoff 04-29-2004 03:40 PM

kinda sad you had to come here and brag about it tho. Kind of a downer on your Karma meter.

It didn't come off as bragging to me. It came off as
"Hey, I feel good about this thing I did"

Awesome, awesome gesture....everyone should try it!:thumbsup

Rictor 04-29-2004 03:54 PM

I usually get in their face and call them baby killers and try to steal their wallets. Are you saying this is bad behavior?

Raven 04-29-2004 03:55 PM

Didn't seem like bragging to me, either.

It was more of a 'sharing' of something which made him feel good; so, in turn, he wanted us to feel good.

I dont think so. Being humble is never mentioning it.

Listen up, Assclown!

I was sharing something with the board that made me feel good in attempts to convey the feeling. I can draw it out in crayon if it will help you understand.

There are PLENTY of things I could boast about but this is certainly not one of them. Yeah, big ole HighonAcid spent a measly $20 on breakfast...whoopity fucking doo! I'm such the braggart...search ALL MY POSTS, that's all I do is brag, brag, brag.... :321GFY

Now be a good little boy and go play outside.

KRL - That thanks for that gesture. 15k worth of Karma coming my way. :thumbsup

Judging from your mature reply theres no questioning your great Karma. haha

You werent bragging about $20 you were trying to prove something about yourself aparently. Its like the guy who says " Yeah Im a good guy, I paid my child support."..

Anyway I was mostly just playin which'u but its funny your response negated anything you could have proven.

pushpills 04-29-2004 04:52 PM

are they really supposed to salute civilians for getting a free omlette?
