couch or sectional?

lets say i was furnishing a house from scratch - which would you pick?

a leather couch and love seat with a matching massague wide ass recliner or a leather corner sectional with a matching wide ass massaguge recliner?

i usually get the 1/2 leather 1/2 vinal stuff - no need for the back of the couch facing the wall to be real leather - as long as my ass is on real leather i'm happy.

myjah 04-28-2004 09:20 PM

hmmm...depends on the room set up and size

Kalifornia 04-28-2004 09:20 PM

sectionals are nice

if you have the room - sectional - without a doubt - leather

detoxed 04-28-2004 09:21 PM

i like sectionals

SleazyDream 04-28-2004 09:22 PM

either will fit

SleazyDream 04-28-2004 09:23 PM

the sectional has recliners built into it that face forward to the big screen....

Muffin 04-28-2004 09:25 PM

Hey You!!!!

Well......I don't know if this is the advice you are looking for but here goes......

I personally would not puchase a matching couch or sectional with a love seat. If you are starting from scratch I would choose things that compliment each other but have their own style and identity. Everything matching, (in my mind only) is boring......Depending on your lifestyle is the type of leather that I would purchase.......For you, I would go with something sharp that won't look bad after you have beat it up a little.....too soft makes for an ugly look quickly.

Don't look to fill up a house too quickly with stuff, buy as you live in the area and see how you want to live in the space. Buy whatever you love.....but at the end of the day, but stuff that has good construction.......forget about something facing the wall, just make sure it doesn't fall apart. A good sofa should last you more than several years.

Thats my opinion! Good luck and have fun! Can't wait to see you soon!

Muffin 04-28-2004 09:27 PM

Sectionals are great and they even have some now that are really cool and double wide.....but please....please.....please......no recliners, no drink holders built in!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You!

Ooooh! If you were my husband, no way would I allow you to buy a sectional with those built in recliners. What else does it have cup holders & little pockets? It's a couch, not a car in my opinion.

Go with just the standard leather couch, love seat, & recliner. That never goes out of style.

If you really want a sectional, just go standard w/ no frills & also still get a recliner :)

Now aren't you glad you're not married to me, hehe!

i can't decide - the sectional is cool - but not sure if i'll keep this place long term and sectionals don't fit everywhere like standard couches do....

plus i think skufty would see out the w i n d o w better with the couches then the sectional...

but i LIKE cool stuff..

i duno

Shortbread 04-28-2004 09:31 PM

I would have to say sectional. But just be careful that you make sure it will fit before you buy it. Even though it says sectional, in some instances there are only a couple pieces and one could be really long and not fit. But sectional is my ideal!:thumbsup

only got room for one of those in this place though - :( but it IS a must have item.

Holly 04-28-2004 09:33 PM

Definitely couch and loveseat. I personally couldn't handle one of those ugly ass lazy boy recliner deals, but I'd get a nice "chair and a half" with a big ottoman. But I know most guys like the traditional tv watching recliner chairs. You can still find those that don't look like yucky guy recliners if you look around.

No way would anyone bring a sectional into my house, though. :1orglaugh

Babagirls 04-28-2004 09:48 PM

COUCH IS BETTER

sectionals suck, they start breaking really easily. it all starts with one of the built in reclines, then its all downhill from there :glugglug

SleazyDream 04-28-2004 09:50 PM

i'm starting to think more and more couch, loveseat and wide ass recliner are the way to go.

FreeFastHost 04-28-2004 09:52 PM

I have a leather couch, they're very nice, but cost way more (not sure if that's an issue for you). I'd post pics of it but i'm too lazy to go downstairs.

Odie 04-28-2004 09:52 PM

couches are the way to go, I am personally shopping for a couch set right now n the sales guy made a good point...where as if u ever decide to move or want new furniture, it will be difficult to rearrange the sectional and u can't really split the two pieces apart. They'll look funny apart and what if they don't suit the room?? also, with a couch u can mix and match easier than u would be able to if u needed to

Sly_RJ 04-28-2004 09:53 PM

A massage chair? Hmm...

That one is actually okay. I could live with that, although I would still have to put a big ottoman in front of it when you weren't using it. :1orglaugh I was gonna say one of the main requirements would have to be some sort of feet or legs on it that put it up off the ground. If it sits almost flat on the floor or on one of those big round pedestal things, I wouldn't like it. I've never seen one that rocked that looked worth a damn.

I concur. And sectionals look too contemporary; go for a little more class.

the couches are actually more comfy

quiet 04-29-2004 12:51 AM

definitely couches. i owned a sectional a couple of years ago, would not buy another one.

reynold 04-29-2004 12:56 AM

I'd say sectional!

SleazyDream 04-29-2004 10:27 AM

sat in both today - the couches are cheaper - can be moved much easier - are MUCH better quality and just seem like the right move......
