BBQ

bcooter 04-28-2004 06:12 PM

These are the rules. I saw it on a BBQ special on tv.

1. it is only bbq if you are barbeque'n. and that means something like ribs, that you slowly cook, or a pig.

2. you can not bbw hot dogs or hamburgers. If you are cooking hot dogs, or hamburgers that is grilling.

Joe Citizen 04-28-2004 06:13 PM

BBQ

Pornwolf 04-28-2004 06:13 PM

BBQ, unless you are doing stuff that doesn't require BBQ sauce.

But what fun is that?

Tuna 04-28-2004 06:14 PM

BBQ :thumbsup

Haha, rules like that crack me up.

I have a BBQ on my porch. Anything I cook in there just got BBQ'd. Fuck the naming rules; it's MY BBQ so anything that cooks in it has been BBQ'd :thumbsup

Maybe someday I'll lift my pinkee when sipping tea; only then will I "grill" anything in my BBQ.

haha, true...it's not like you get called to a BBQ and only see hotdogs and be like this not a BBQ, this is grilling :1orglaugh

AWC 04-28-2004 06:24 PM

Secret is in the sauce... if there is no sauce... you are cooking out, that is unless your in OZ.

tootie 04-28-2004 06:24 PM

I call it different things at different times. I usually say grilling of cooking out unless we're actually barbecuing something.

MrIzzz 04-28-2004 06:26 PM

so far the BBQs are winning, but the cook-outs are catching up. just when i thought that i was gonna win this argument:)

newsdude 04-28-2004 08:42 PM

BBQ for me! :winkwink:

AMADude 04-28-2004 08:42 PM

BBQ but when I lived in Pennsylvania we called it a cook out.

myjah 04-28-2004 09:23 PM

BBQ i think is the term i use most often

Sama 04-28-2004 09:23 PM

The correct terminology is GRILLING. You can place any meat or vegetable on the GRILL and GRILL it.

You are BARBEQUING if you use any form of Barbeque Sauce.

Glad thats cleared up!

Holly 04-28-2004 09:24 PM

Maybe it's a regional thing. Down here in the South, it's "cookin' out". Sometimes we "cook out on the grill". :winkwink:

To me, bbq'ing is actually making bbq or putting bbq sauce on something. But if I'm bbq'ing on the grill, I still call it cooking out. :1orglaugh

pure energy 04-28-2004 09:25 PM

BBQ! Nothing else!

Muffin 04-28-2004 09:29 PM

I think they are both right.......

Babagirls 04-28-2004 09:31 PM

BBQ-if theres ribs
Cookout- no ribs, just burgers and hotdogs :thumbsup

CDSmith 04-28-2004 09:37 PM

Sauce has dick-all to do with it. If you are cooking something using a barbecue, then you are technically......

BARBECUING

Helloo? Anyone like, hoome??

I say barbecue.
As in, this food has been barbecued.
Let's have a barbecue.
Hey you, get away from my barbecue.
Would you like your wiener boiled or barbecued?
Just shut up and barbecue already.

Sharky 04-28-2004 09:42 PM

Now we are talking about my passion here!

In the North they say BBQ, in the south we say Grill!

Grilling is over a direct flame, BBQ is over an indirect flame (slow cooked)

Feel free to ask some others who GRILL on a daily basis

But we don't call it a "barbecue", here. :1orglaugh We call it a grill. Occasionally, you might hear someone referring to it as a "barbecue pit", but that's usually only if it's one of those big, huge brick monstrosities that have to be built.

CDSmith 04-28-2004 10:08 PM

Let's see here.....

"I was invited to a backyard barbecue"

"I was invited to a backyard grill"

.... grill sounds stupid. It's definitely a barbecue, you people are definitely barbecuing, your food has definitely been barbecued.

Besides, how did this "grill" shit even get into this thread. I thought the choices were barbecue (bbq) and cook-out. A backyard cook-out sounds better than a backyard grill, but a cook-out could mean anything, the food could be cooked in numerous ways. The term "barbecue" leaves no doubt as to what's happening.

ace0r 04-28-2004 10:10 PM

we've always called it a barbeque here, maybe it is a north-south thing.

and as cd said, grill does sound stupid, make me think of my foreman grill

HEARTBREAKER 04-28-2004 10:12 PM

bbq or grill it:thumbsup

lurking 04-28-2004 10:16 PM

leave it to a canadian to say something like "I was invited to a backyard barbecue"
