U.S. may withdraw from Olympics

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/20...103531621.html

They're saying we may withdraw because of possible terror attacks.

Mr Pheer 04-28-2004 04:40 PM

thats just fucking stupid

Reagan did that in the 80's because he didnt want our athletes in Moscow.

BuckLover 04-28-2004 04:42 PM

No good! I doubt if it will happen!

warlock5 04-28-2004 04:47 PM

what a load of bullshit.

Rich 04-28-2004 04:52 PM

The Olympics are going to be cancelled, they just took out 100+ million dollars in cancellation insurance today. Besides the terror risk caused by Bush's invasion, they haven't completed some of the venues. Outdoor swimming in Athens in summer does not work.

Hahaha, you spend all your time telling other countries that are leaving iraq that they are bowing down to the terrorist attacks, yet you want to back out of the olympics... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

SPITZ WAS QUOTED IN TWO BRITISH NEWSPAPERS SAYING THE UNITED STATES IS CONSIDERING A WITHDRAWL FROM THE ATHENS GAMES.

BUT THE CHIEF COMMUNCATIONS OFFICER FOR THE U.S.O.C. DARRYL SEIBEL, SAYS, NO WAY, "Absolutely no consideration given to the United States team not being in Athens for the Olympic Games. We have every reason to expect and every reason to believe that our team will be in Athens."

looks like the press jumped on the words of one man like a naked breast at mardi gras.

Kerry, while fighting for his country, received a Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V, and three awards of the Purple Heart for his service in combat. and still carries shrapnel in his body to this day.

Do you talk the same shit to our men and women in Iraq who get injured and who put their lives on the line for you every day?

You sound like someone who hates the military and hates America.

Show some respect for our troops, if you're even an American!

Lane 04-28-2004 06:41 PM

damn, that would suck big time

olympics used to stop wars in the history

Living For Today 04-28-2004 06:46 PM

That would be fuckin cool if they pulled out. Australian world dominance.

i have big respect for the military, and the people i know who serve in it. however, i have reservations on someone who may have exaggerated their injuries to get a purple heart and qualify to go home earrly. that, in my view, disrespects our troops that had no intention of leaving early.

kerry is calling the kettle black and mixing politics with war for his gain. both of these characters are clones.

1) It is an unconfirmed rumor

2) The decision has nothing to do with Bush but
is in the hands of the US Olympic commitee.

xenophobic 04-28-2004 07:31 PM

someone posted a link to john titor's page & his predictions some time back and he was asked :

Are the Olympics still being played in the future?

As a result of the many conflicts, no, there were no official Olympics after
2004. However, it appears they may be revived in 2040.

fjear the man of the future! :)

he does seem to have all the answers :)

newsdude 04-28-2004 07:35 PM

I'm sure the terrorists are proud right now knowing how scared U.S. is!

Theo 04-28-2004 07:59 PM

The interview is with an old, big swimmer and I don't think it's close to any official word. Athens has 3 times higher budget on security than Atlanta had (approximately $800mil) and during the games all major secret agencies will be here. (not sure if that's good or not haha) I don't believe US athletes or any other athlete will be in any risk.

As Rich said there's a delay in the construction of some of the avenues due to poor handling of previous govt and because of the bad weather conditions during winter, but it's within the acceptable limits. The cancelation insurance it's just not true. Mark my words and bump this thread in few days for confirmation.

I wasn't big fan of Athens hosting the games from the very first moment. Everyone involved to olympics here has an obsession with them. This is not healthy and the olympics budget has been increasing for the last six years in terms of billions. The spirit of olympic games died decaded ago and I doubt this is gonna change now or in the future.

for sure. that would be so weak if they pulled out. dont show the enemy you're afraid.

slackologist 04-28-2004 08:05 PM

Beijing 2008 should be an interesting event. Looking forward to that one.

Roger 04-28-2004 08:07 PM

Terrorism is so easy to do, so why would they complicate things, risk getting caught and failing there mission when they can so easily target something else that isn't as well protected?

His military records are open to the public. Nobody is saying you have to like or respect Kerry, but assumption and speculation just make you look like a twit.

James White 04-28-2004 08:28 PM

wont happend, but stupid regardless

just like bush releasing his records eh? just because you release something doesn't mean shit. yes kerry released some records, but he's not releasing the docs regarding the purple heart in question. even then he still gave people the runaround as to where to find everything. also he said he threw away his medals, but now its just the ribbons, which is it? i completely understand his anger after vietnam and tossing medals, but you cant turn around and say how much those medals mean to you just because its a good political move.

when we don't get clear facts from kerry or the said docs then all ANYONE can do is speculate. same with bush and his military record, the people that brought it up recently tried it in the 2000 election and it never got anywhere. just more speculation.

clinton dodged the draft, bush dodged vietnam, and kerry did what he could to leave earlier while his head was still on his neck so he could get home to marry a couple rich broads. welcome to the American presidency.
