Investigators said they consulted Dr. Michael D. Jensen, a medical professor at the Mayo Medical School, who confirmed that ingredients in the weight-loss product sold in the disputed e-mails wouldn't work.

Let's not forget... this wasn't just spam. These guys were sending spam without the required "remove" information. Particularly aggressive and irresponsible.

Spam kills birds and destroys the ozone layer.

Whoops, I mean Junk Mail. Please do something about it.

Internet God 04-28-2004 04:52 PM

"Pornographic spammers must clearly label their advertisements"

"The FTC can fine violators $11,000 per violation ? that's per e-mail address, which could prove costly for marketers who send millions of e-mails a day. In some cases, the Department of Justice, the enforcement agency, can charge spammers up to $5 million in fines. Convicted violators could also face up to five years in jail. "

I'm making my list...

I can't wait to see your ass in jail....BITCH.

What they are doing is blatantly illegal, 'nuff said.

I'm glad they are being punished, but I don't exactly get the "warm fuzzies" about my tax money going to cloth, feed and shelter them while in jail. They aren't a danger to society, figure out another way to punish them.

In this case I think the message that it sends is worth the tax dollars.

I'm sure some of fines that could be levied against spammers could just be seen as a cost of doing business for some of the top spammers.

NO...BAD PARENTS CAUSE THIS... My kids spend alot of time on the net, but ALWAYS under supervision of me or my girl...

Parents who let their kids out on the net unsupervised are just bad parents...

I think alot more companies make money then lose. Why do you think theres only an arest every nine months. Any why they leave so many loopholes. No has been arrested for just mailing, its always fraud. They're just showing us "they care" yeah right. haha Businesses make millions and millions because people spam. Get a clue you idots.

BlackCrayon 04-28-2004 06:26 PM

what a waste of tax payer dollars. not only do they prosecute harmless drug offenses, tieing up courts now they are going to do the same thing because some ppl got email they didn't want. murders and child molesters will have to wait for another day, ppl are getting useless email and it stops today!

but on the others hand, if your 8 y.o son / daughter has an email acchahahaha and uses it to stay in touch with his 9 y.o friends, then he still can be spamed with pornography.

I think it is another problem, when older kids (like 14. y.o ) search the net for porn and find free porn, but it is a bigger problem when even younger kids, get spammed with porn emails.

High Quality 04-29-2004 01:59 AM

PK is only pissed cuz she doesn't make the bling bling off a tgp that spammers do with 1/100th the work :(
