Couple takes pictures of son, 2, smoking pot
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0427041pot1.html
APRIL 27--Meet Elizabeth Lyvers and John Robert Gray. The dimwitted Kentucky couple was arrested Sunday for felony child abuse after taking pictures of Lyvers's two-year-old son smoking pot. The pair was nabbed when an employee at the convenience store where Lyvers, 24, and Gray, 20, dropped off their film called cops after seeing the offending images. According to Bardstown police, one photo shows Gray holding a pipe to the child's mouth while an unidentified man--who is being sought--lights the pipe (after his arrest, Gray acknowledged that the device contained marijuana). Lyvers's son--and a one-year-old fathered by Gray--were removed from the couple's home by state child welfare officials. The below mug shots were taken by the Nelson County Sheriff's Department. Along with the abuse charges, Lyvers and Gray have one other criminal headache: their central Kentucky home was robbed yesterday while they were bunking at the local lockup. (1 page) |

This dude I party with, Pat, is a huge Crown drinker. When his kid was born they put a bottle of crown, a gold ring, and somethen else in front of him to see what he would pick. He sure as hell went for the ground. Though they didn't give him any, it was still pimp. =]
I'm more of a SoCo man, but hey, Crown works to =] |

When I was 15 my 18 year old boyfriend had a neighbor who was 29 years old. Well, the neighbor used to give their 2 year old son marijuana. He'd inhale it into his own mouth and then blow it into the boy's face through cupped hands. At the time it didn't seem like such a big deal, and although I knew it was bad and I wanted to say something, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Now I wish I'd said something and if I were ever in that situation again, I would.

tell me you are? |
I can't say shit... I, along with my friends, drank back when we were 12. Granted we stole it from our parents and got our asses whoped, we did it a lot. I got to say I would never give animals shit because thats just messed up, I know alot of people who have. Also keep in mind alot of parents give their children rum and wiskey when they their teething because it helps relax and numb the pain.
Note: Even if your 17, if your parents give you even 1 sip of alcohol thats concidered chiled abuse. Now that is truely fucked up. |

When I was younger (10-12yrs old) my parents would occasionally give me a beer or whatever just to shut me up. I'd constantly be harassing them for it. At the time I just THOUGHT I wanted it and wasnt too fond of the taste though so I learned my lesson pretty quick and usually wouldnt drink much.
I have to agree though, weed and a 2 yr old should not ever be seen together. |

There are 1000s of Americans that need to be LOCKED UP IMMEDIATELY if so, and if not, that hypocrisy at its finest. Youd think some of you people would care more about the TV and Magazine alcohol ads your kids see. While I am not endorsing what this couple did, the hypocrisy is what strikes me. Alcohol ads are up, number of teens and preteens enjoying alcohol is UP, and yet no one really cares. Parent slet the kids see the ads all over and do not care. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/livin...ds_030514.html "Magazines that boast more teen readers are more likely to run ads for beer and liquor that their young patrons aren't old enough to drink, a new study has found. " http://lumen.georgetown.edu/explore/news/?ID=785 ""This dramatic increase in alcohol ads seen by our children in 2002 suggests the problem got worse," said Jim O?Hara, executive director of the Center. "While a step in the right direction, the industry?s new marketing codes lag far behind its aggressive marketing practices." The Center found that the total number of alcohol ads on network, local and cable television increased to 289,381 in 2002, a 39 percent hike from 2001. Spending grew by 22 percent, to more than $990 million in 2002. Youth ages 12-20 were more likely on a per capita basis than adults to have seen 66,218 ads, a 30 percent increase over 2001. " they are spending millions to HOOK YOUR KIDS ON BEER |

Not to mention the fact that some teen SEEING an add for alcohol, obviously intended to appeal to adults, is a far cry from sticking a fucking pipe in a 2 year olds mouth and firing it up. you're reaching buddy.... reeeeeaaally reaching with this one. |

You say you see them marketing to ADULTS, when I link an article discussing TEEN MAGAZINES selling ad space to alcohol. Im not here to argue about this, but the facts are there. People obviously dont care because if they did something would be done. Starting weith not allowing their kids to read the mag, vs waiting until some college does research and finds this out ;) |
what magazine? Do you have actual proof of this, or are you taking the word of some zealot?
|
Damn there are some wacko's in this world... :helpme
|
"National Geographic (which had no beer or wine ads and relatively few for hard liquor), Reader's Digest (which had only eight alcohol ads during the study period), Vibe, Rolling Stone, People, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated, which had the highest number of alcohol ads."
newsflash: those are not "teen" magazines. Just because a teen may read one of them, does NOT classify it as a "teen" magazine. Now, if Anheuser Busch is advertising in TeenBeat or Seventeen... that's a different story. You have to accept the fact that we do not live in a vacuum. Teens are going to see adult marketing at some point. |
First off, IDing is a joke. People ages 18-25 usually work in stores (especially gas stations) where beer is bought. Cause of this, even if you have a chalked ID, as long as you know the person it is easy to buy from them. On top of that, since I was 15, I personally had friends of age that would buy for me. Getting alcohol with a few hours notice isn't a problem once so ever.
On top of that, personally I think ALC is worst than marijuana. First off, you don't have binge smoking like drinking and you really don't hear of kids dieing from smoking to much weed as you do to much ALC. You also don't see many people giving girls hits of a joint in order to rape them like you do alcohol. Alcohol also impairs driving ability ALOT more and causes "Blackouts" where you have long lapses of unconsciousness where you are like normal, just do not remember one-second of it. If you say faking a baby hitting a pipe is immoral, but not beer you are hypocritical. If you would rather have your child drink than smoke weed you are retarded because fact is, the kids who sit on a couch laughing at stuff eating cheetos are safer than the ones who are downing beers and breaking shit. |

They did wrong and admitted it, people do the same with alcohol everyday in this country, do you feel those parents should be locked up as well? There are 1000s of people in America that you feel should be locked up forever and have the key thrown away if thats the case man. How many pictures of babies and beer cans have been posted on this board? I know how much you dislike stoners and marijuana, or have seen you post about your feelings towards them so theres really no use. Im NOT here to argue this point, was simply to raise the question of how bias the argument really is. You seem to have a zero tolerance when it comes to anything to do with marijuana, I have learned that long ago ;) |

When you smoke to much the most you do *USSUALY* is eat a lot and then goto sleep. Just this past Easter I personally know a kid who drank to the point that he blacked out. While he was blacked out people convinced him to drink a bottle of cloraseptic spray. He was in the hospital for 3 days because of this. At the same party, 3 other people went to the hospital because of alcohol poisoning. Now how many got sick from marijuana? None! Since it is illegal and I agree with the law, you shouldn't touch marijuana, but FACT IS it is safer than alcohol! I would rather have my children smoke a J then drink a bottle of liquor ANY DAY. Why do you think Canada has lowered it's laws on marijuana? As for the original posting, I would obviously never do this with a two year old, and think smoking is retarded... I don't want it to seem like I support it one bit, just asking how can you say it is ok to take a gag joke of a baby drinking beer, but using a pipe (not LIT) is bad? |
Quote:
There is no difference. If you're giving a kid substances, be it booze, weed, or freakin' crack.... it's all the same, and yes... they SHOULD be locked up. |

If magazines want to sell their ad space to alcohol companies that are going to pay more, they can go nuts. Its up to parents to teach their kids the difference between right and wrong. Once the kids get to a certain age (teenagers) the parent just have to hope they did a good enough job for the children to make their own informed decisions. Obviously some supervision is still required along with discipline, but teaching children from a young age that drinking or smoking weed is ok does not scream "responsible parent" to me. Its like the old saying "Do as I say, not as I do.". Its hypocritical, but parents have to be. If every parent allowed their children to do all the stupid shit they did when they were younger then imagine how that would pass down through the generations. Someone has to be responsible sometime. |

Yet its okay to prescribe ritalin to millions of kids. |

Parents allow magazines to teach their kids nowadays. Period, magazines, and TV. I vote for mandatory license to breed. |
ALC is legal because when they made it illegal it just made the matter worst. It started Bootlegging and helped contribute to the formation of organized crimes in the US.
First off were not really speaking what is legal or not because alcohol isn't legal till 21. Please don't tell me you agree someone should be locked up for giving their 20 year old son a beer. I also never said that they gave the child anything, its a GAG picture. Im clearly saying that it's a picture for a joke. Obviously everyone has their own views and I will agree with yours for your children. It how ever is not your responsibility or right to tell others how to raise their children. If someone wants to take a GAG picture of their child drinking, they should not be locked up for that... What that is telling us is they are as bad as someone who robbed a store. Now to give a two year old a beer and let him drink the whole can is another story. |
