Blog Marketing pt II (ARTICLE)

Blog Marketing part II: Content Diversity and Syndication

by Gene aka $5 Submissions of http://www.webmasterlabor.com Outsourced solutions for Today?s online entrepreneur.

Last article, we discussed ways in which adult marketers can avoid common mistakes in blog marketing. In this segment, we focus on the importance of a blog?s content diversity and the use of syndication to get traffic.

Content Diversity in blogs

The best way to classify your blog would be to make it a ?news? blog. You comment on news articles but your commentary can widely diverge after the opening paragraph regarding the news of the day. Regardless, the vast majority of blogs are personal journals which meander along differing topics. This may seem confusing or downright irritating for someone who is looking for an aggregated website devoted to one specific body of information. However, this is what makes blogs so personal and, to its loyal readers, so appealing ? there is no monotony of of subject matter. The reader is invited, through such meandering thoughts, to know the hahahahahar on a deeper personal basis. This expectation, amongst blog readers, of a wide diversity of topics is a huge MARKETING ADVANTAGE for the blog marketer.

By allowing the blog owner to touch upon differing topics, the blog format allows him/her to discuss topics that can lead to sex-related or penis-health articles and ?advertorials.? One good way to do this is to have one article in your blog that focuses on either a ?scientific? ?medical? or ?objective? review of penis pill products (replete with charts, pictures, and cross references) or a ?serious? value-conscious review of porn sites. You can then link to these pages (remember to be subtle) when discussing sex, male health, and other related topics. While the bulk of your daily blog may be sex-related news, jokes, rants, or personal reflections, remember to link to your earlier penis pill and/or paysite review articles.

Making Use of Free Hosted Galleries

For the more ?creative writing?-oriented areas of your blog, you can hahahahaha a quick mini-story which involves the subject matter of a FHG and just hyper link certain keywords to the FHG. Since FHGs have so many differing types of subjects and situations, your imagination is your limit. You can link FHGs to certain relevant words in a joke of the day entry. You can also link them to particular words in quirky ?Too Weird to be Fiction? type of daily weird news articles and links. Your limit really, is your imagination.

Maximizing Syndication and Traffic through RSS

Part of the reason why blogs have invaded the collective consciousness of the digital literati is because of the ease in which ?choice? blog entries can be detected and linked to on one?s blog.

All syndication simply means is letting other blog publishers know of your blog entries, parse which entries they like, and link to your entries from their site. Syndication tools like RSS (Really Simple Syndication) allow your pages to be found, categorized, and linked to faster and easier than ever.

How do you syndicate? Create an RSS text file. RSS is a simple XML format geared toward sharing content headlines/titles across the Web. Basically, it tells other websites
That spider your site using RSS the ?points of interest? regarding your content offerings.
The RSS file requires setting up your own RSS channel. You can use the free open source scripts at http://www.webreference.com/scripts/ to set this up easily and quickly.

Blog Registration

Just as TGPs trade traffic and links, differing blog registries trade links and feeds which increases your blog?s chances of being spidered and syndicated. Register your validated RSS file with the following blog aggregators/feed aggregators/directories:

I would be interesting to have someone do a no nonse adult wm blog where you talk about work, about other aspects of your daily life, and different issues a lot of us face. That would be very interesting, though it would have to be brutally honest.

And not to mention profitable since it would be a repository of experimental ideas, implementations, case studies, maybe analysis and debate amongst recognized experts.

Well... when you got something good going you might not want to share your secrets on your blog :-P. It seems to me like there are lots of different layers of wm's out there, some pulling in lots of signup, and some struggling with with tgp galleries, so being a adult wm probably means different things.

I'd want it to be like that reality show with the restauranteur in NYC. All the nitty gritty, like succes, failure, lack of motivation, social life, sex life, make it compelling enough for people to eagerly read it every nite.

So, more like a "Day in the life" kinda thing. Should be interesting on a purely entertainment (and maybe even informational) level.

Very good traffic and great syndication.

A good sex blog might shoot to be a mix of nerve.com, fleshbot.com, and literotica.com

Referrer and Linkbacks (aka Page Rank popularity) are some advantages to Blogs as well.

I've had real good luck linking subtly to galleries. But you have to be very deft. It's so easy to cross the line with too many adult links, so that readers go "oh, this is just a cookie cutter porn blog" and click away. It also costs you the oh-so-valuable links from non-sex bloggers if you go overboard.

I have a question about syndication. I've got a headlines feed on one of my blogs, but I've shrunk from a full-text feed because most RSS users use an RSS aggregator, don't they? Which means they read my blog without ever coming to my site, right? Seems to sort of defeat the purpose. How can I expose them to my advertising if they never visit? (I've got a couple of sex blogs with actual paid advertisers, plus an assortment of tasteful affiliate links of course.)
