I Quit Smoking today and have been an ABSOLUTE PRICK!!!

Man, I am so edgy! I've been snapping at everyone today. I need a cig!!! It's incredible how much of a habit it really was. I keep reaching for where I always kept my smokes out of habit but they're not there. My sweet little cancer sticks are gone. :(

They say that if you can get past the first week you're fine but this first week is going to be HELL! Not only for me, but for everyone around me!

candyflip 04-26-2004 02:00 PM

Cigs I had no problem with. Mary Jane on the other hand would be a bitch to give up.

SlickCash Sarah 04-26-2004 02:01 PM

I still think you are hot as hell...regardless if you are gonna be a prick from now on..Just be nice to me!

okny 04-26-2004 02:01 PM

Dont smoke!!! Go smoke a joint or something :winkwink:

Deepai 04-26-2004 02:03 PM

Be prepared to put on some pounds as you trade cancer for heart disease!!!!:2 cents:

TheHitman 04-26-2004 02:04 PM

buy some cigars or black and milds. Smoke them- since you don't inhale them its better for you during the transition period, but it does help with the whole hand to mouth thing, and there's not nicotine in there.

Someone told me something that helped me quit.
"There are 2 types of people -- smokers and non-smokers. Choose one and stick with it."

That means not just having one here and there.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 04-26-2004 02:14 PM

my hubby has tried to quit, he got sick of me bitching about how many bags of weed we could have had if he didnt smoke the cancer sticks... he goes about 3 days then wreaks havoc on all around him...the last time i ended up with glass in my scalp cause he didnt like the fact i wouldnt jump up and unlock my door fast enough.. he smashed it in.. fuck that addiction.. its worst than crack :1orglaugh

RRRED 04-26-2004 02:33 PM

Glass in your scalp? Dear god...

Well I have to quit today but I haven't decided what time yet... hehe... They say it takes an average of 8 times to quit and I think I'm on good ole #8 now.

I've done patches, gum, low nicotine cigs, wellbutrin, etc. This time I'm just gonna stop. COLD TURKEY!

Hope no one gets injured in the process :) Good luck to you and remember, supposedly after three days it's way easier. Don't know who came up with that though. Probably some nonsmoker.

AMADude 04-26-2004 02:33 PM

You'll make it dude.

Jimbo 04-26-2004 02:36 PM

1 week?

I think if you pass the first day you can make it easy...

your body dont need it, its just a urge of doing something, so do something else.

Hollywood Horwitz 04-26-2004 02:40 PM

I quit smoking cigs almost cold turkey and it was hard. my only advise is to start smoking american spirit lights and only smoke 1-2 a day and you will not be so edgy.

SoundMan 04-26-2004 02:45 PM

Chew on some celery, i hear that works:thumbsup

Steve 04-26-2004 02:48 PM

what's wrong with being a prick?

Thanks, Sarah! :winkwink:

I don't plan on gaining any weight because a part of my "Quit Smoking Plan" is going back to the gym full time. I have a workout area in my studio so when I get the urge to smoke, I go press out a couple reps. That usually helps me get my mind off of it.

I have been one snappy mo-fo today! :zzwhip

all in the mind

TheMob 04-26-2004 03:14 PM

I quit a month ago and it's crazy.. the first week is a bitch, once you get passed it it's a piece of cake but after 3 weeks it all starts over again.. i'm fucking edgy & can't sleep till 3 am.. apart from that, i'm glad i stopped.

sean416 04-26-2004 03:16 PM

remember this, ciggarette cravings only last 30 seconds. So when you feel like smoking, think of something else for a minute or so. :winkwink:

Good luck man. I am thinking of trying to quit myself. I just don't think I am ready yet.

I agree 100%! :winkwink:

Every morning when I woke up I sounded like someone shoved a candy whistle down my throat while I was sleeping! I coudn't even take a deep breath without coughing. I'm so done with cigs but I swear to god that hottie is over in the corner doing one hell of a strip tease to lure me back in. No! Not the double wrap around pole slide again!!! :(

slackologist 04-26-2004 04:41 PM

patches help u get rid of the physical/habitual addiction of -- taking time out to have a smoke ( putting something in your mouth and sucking on it etc ) they also help you get off the drug addiction gradually with less temptation to start up smoking again... it helps if you have a good reason to quit ( kid on the way.. health problems, etc ) it get's easier though.. the first few weeks are the worst.. you need to break the old associations eg; coffee +cig, 5 min breaks+cigs.. it's a good idea when u get cravings to have a glass of water.. drink it very slowly.. take some deep breaths.. do something that will distract your mind.. ( go for a walk/run ) the cravings usually only peak for 5-10 min.. good luck.

Au contraire....I'm doing some research articles on cigarettes....

the shit that's in them is enough to almost make me want to quit.

It's a worse addiction than heroin or cocaine.

Raven 04-26-2004 04:55 PM

Oh yeah...good luck, HighOnAcid.

Get through the first three months and you'll be fine...

Tuna 04-26-2004 04:58 PM

Thanks, Raven. Your advice about my anxiety has helped out tremendiously so I'm not going to question your quit smoking advice.

Budz - I've been chewing gum like the dude in my sig!!! Hours upon hours of chewing!!!

Ironhorse 04-26-2004 05:08 PM

I stopped smoking cigs 2 years ago and stopped weed about 3 months ago. I now keep a box of toothpics and some in my pocket 'for the road'. Works pretty well for me. Good luck ditching the tobacco demon. You can do it! :thumbsup

arial 04-26-2004 05:10 PM

Throw in some weed and you should be fine.

SilverTab 04-26-2004 05:34 PM

Good luck! I quitted cold turkey 6months ago...there's really no miracle solution...when you have a crave, just say to yourself..no!...it's self control, that's it..! Do something else, think about something else ....Even after 6 months I still have cravings here and there, mostly when I drink beer...but it's getting easier day after day to resist....
The key is not to say "I don't smoke anymore..." but just... I don't smoke! :winkwink:

jackson 04-26-2004 05:36 PM

don't put your body through the struggle of withdrawl fuckin nicotine just give in, support the cause! :stoned

good luck with that, hang in there and avoid friends ( you might piss them off)

I don't normally like to let out my secret, but just this once I'll reveal my fool-proof technique. Any time you feel the urge to either smoke or to bitch at somebody because you can't smoke, try this:
1. Find a brick.
2. Grasp it firmly with both hands.
3. Smash it against your forehead.
4. Repeat step 3 until you have successfully rendered yourself unconscious.

This may not help you get over your addiction, but it will sure help those around you deal with it better.

reynold 04-26-2004 05:43 PM

It's always hard to give up something you've always had. Goodluck on this one!

I quit smoking for a year and didn't gain a single pound. If you work out on a regular basis and eat properly the you wont get fat. It's the nicotine that stimulates your metabolism - working out does the same thing. It's all about the metabolism and keeping it active.

Quit smoking and eat everything in site = Massive Weight Gain
Quit smoking and eat right while working out regularly = Only Positive Gains.

And that's my :2 cents:

Good luck to you! And you too HighOnAcid. It's not an easy thing to do, but once you are completely done with it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it ages ago.

Did it for about a month to prove I could. Read the news, saw the world's going to shit anyways, so what would be the point? To quote a master: "Who's to say? We'll all be dead anyways." :-)

Power to you to try. I'm not really drawn to cigarettes except habit. Decadence and excess is my problem. That's a tougher to one to crack.
