Motorcycle Insurance is a Fucking RIPOFF!

Holy shit my bike 2 years ago was only $800 a year.

Just got a quote for my new bike and it's $2800 a year! I called around for better quotes and no one is writing new policies and no one wants to insure motorcycles anymore.

What a fucking ripoff! :feels-hot

We've got 2 bikes and I just had to shell out for the yearly premium last week. Mine only jumped $200 this year. Sucks because we don't get to put them to use year-round.

TheHitman 04-26-2004 01:10 PM

Where do you live? I keep seeing commercials on TV for progressive being motorcycle friendly insurers

TheHitman 04-26-2004 01:11 PM

im in jersey, my friends 20 just went out and bought the 2004 yamaha r6 he got a quote from Rider for 1800/year after they processed his license it went up to 8500/year thats about what the bike costs. His driving record supposedly effected it he had 2 speeding tickets from 2 years ago.

ToolGuy 04-26-2004 01:38 PM

DrinkingHard, call 1-800-211-SAVE or go to http://www.21st.com/ to see if they can hook you up with a better rate.
I had motorcycle insurance through them last year and it was less than half the price as anywhere else.

SS396chevelleSS 04-26-2004 01:41 PM

Screw that, you need to not put collission on, I have a 2003 Yamaha R1 and im only paying 240 a year.. and I have tickets!

sextoyking 04-26-2004 01:42 PM

DH,

Who are you going through?

I pay less then 300.00 per year for full coverage on my 30k HD Fat Boy.

I think the company is called American Modern. You can also call HD Insurance and they can recommend some.

thanks

Todd

Basic_man 04-26-2004 01:43 PM

That's pretty expensive! :2 cents:

SleazyDream 04-26-2004 01:46 PM

bike insurance is insane

mcfly 04-26-2004 01:46 PM

i have 2 bikes and my rates are only like $480 per year. obviously it depends on the bike, where you live, age, driving history, etc.

GTS Mark 04-26-2004 02:05 PM

I'd love to call up these companies but I doubt they will insure a motorcycle in Canada. :(

I just got a quote for $1000 a year from progressive in CA for a 1300cc cruiser.

rip raster 04-26-2004 02:14 PM

just make sure they don't find out that you'll be riding around in a dress, they'll probably try to charge you even more :winkwink:

Sosa 04-26-2004 02:15 PM

ouch, that sucks ass.

I would only pay a premium like that on a bike worth $30k or more

Crotch rockets are cheap and that is easily more than 25% of a new jap bike's worth.. per year

Guess it depends on what you ride

I was paying $65 per month for full coverage on a Victory Vegas, which was $18k out the door... and I still thought that was pretty high

TheFrog 04-26-2004 02:23 PM

that sucks man :(

xxxoutsourcing 04-26-2004 03:36 PM

Yea that sucks in your COUNTRY.....

i pay no where near that...lol

Lace 04-26-2004 04:02 PM

i got quoted $5,000 a year for my cbr rr. Shit is out of control.

StRoGE 04-26-2004 04:31 PM

As long as you dont have full coverage you'll be fine. The insurance companies are tired of paying settlements out for kids that park their bike under a car after owning it for a week.
Dont get collision. Get fire, vandalism, theft, and liability and you should be good to go.
