Kids are living different lives. I had to use National Geographic to see Titties
Kids are living different lives. I had to use National Geographic to see Titties. Sometime around my 12th year I discovered my Dad's Penthouse.
I can't imagine being young and infront of a web browser. It wouldn't matter what parental controls were on the computer, I'd still end up seeing porn. It must be tramatizing. Anyway, I gave my 9 year-old my old laptop and I setup parental controls but I still have a worried feeling. All she needs is to get one piece of spam with a girl getting a 12 inch up her ass to change her for life. Ugh. |
I totally understand what you are going through. I have a 13 yr old boy.
All we had back in the day ( I am 38) was our Dad's mags. |
...set up her email to block any messages that contain links :thumbsup

don't forget the sears catalog! that was an even better goldmine for spank material when i was younger.
|
I discovered porn when I was on BBS' way back in the day of 1200 bps modems. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just needed a couple years to figure out how to sell it and here I am today :)

yep internet makes everything possible, why don't you just disable internet connection from your laptop. Or prohibit her to use computers at all, girls don't care too much for computers, do they?!
|
I am SO glad the guys my age grew up with NG mags. They actually EXPECT to see old saggy boobs :)
tbabe - they are having orgy parties in HS and even MS these days. :( Rick - since she's 9, after putting in all the parent blocks, also tell her you'll be reading her email before she does. Have her give you a list of her "friends" and you can filter that into a box you don't read if she wants a bit more privacy. But YOU read the stuff that's from addresses she doesn't know. Personally I think sending out hardcore over anything other than a double opt-in list is nuts and it sucks these problems exist. :feels-hot |
i duno - kids are more exposed then we were - no doubt. but it's about peer group too, all her friends ARE exposed to it too, not letting her have some exposure with your supervision means her only exposure will be through peers and which is better?

but the best bet is what rowan and I suggested. Block all emails with url links, but have certain email addresses whitelisted to send anything. talk to the teachers first, i never heard of a teacher emailing students for anything, i dont think its allowed to collect a database of students private email address. btw.. love the site CJ :thumbsup |
Hopefully access to good porn at your fingertips will keep fucks like this from creating such a taboo about sex.

totally agree with you, even the primary schools are getting worse and worse....:winkwink:

The blocked links with a whitelist is a good idea. |
If you're going to let your 9 year old on the internet, please supervise her at all times. The internet is not a place for kids, and porn isn't the only reason. :2 cents:
I'll never get these parents who give their kids their own computer and internet connection, and then blame TGPs and spammers when they end up seeing fucked up shit. |
I just don't like that development, that's going on in the world...no matter USA or Europe. Kids are the one's that "suffer" most of this ...I don't want my kids to grow up only with their virtuel friend called PC, I don't want them to consume the shit that's shown on TV the whole day. But I agree with you Sleazy, we almost can't help it, coz as long as none of the parents around recognize this "danger" it has no use to forbid those things for our own ones...it makes me feel desperate sometimes.
|
We're about to build a house, and I'll be wiring up CAT5 in the walls to each room for both phone and ethernet... but there's no way I'd let my kid have unsupervised access to the net. That cable will stay unused for years.
You know what I do worry about? Wireless. It's so easy to set up, and a lot of people don't secure it properly, so if you live in a populated area there's a good chance that your wizzkid will be able to piggyback onto someone else's net connection and completely bypass any protection, blocking or physical access policies you have implemented. |

teenagers these days have it easy... :BangBang: and BTW Rick Latona get your daughter AOL think they have a new version out called kol for kids.. as much as AOL sucks it has decent parental controls |
Well, supposedly the pregnancy rate is lower in minors today than it was in the early 90s -- if that means anything. Either way, there isn't a whole lot you can do. Even if you could 100% block it at home, they'll see it at a friends house.
I used BBSes at a young age. Back then you usually had to go through some reasonably strigent age verification (alot more than clicking yes or no -- if even that.) Suffice to say, when the web finally started coming around, if my internet connection had been censored I wouldn't know half the shit I know today. Hell, I don't know if I would have made it to college. Theres a fine balance between censoring the porn and making the internet alot less usable for them. And hell, if you think porn is bad wait until your kid loads up something like rotten.com :1orglaugh |

She's getting lectures about the dangers the same way you would give a kid a lecture about not talking to a stranger on the street. The internet is just a smaller version of the world at large. Y ou have to let your kids fall and realize that it hurts in order for them to watch where they are walking. I'll do what I can to protect her and I'll install morals whenever possible but I won't keep her from going out the door out of fear that something will happen. |
Crokett, she's on AOL
Warlock, or my own site even. |
My kids, ages 8,7 and 3 are all computer literate (to the point of booting up, opening a browser, typing in the domain they want (generally nick.com or slingo.com) They can master the games quicker than I can and pick things up much quicker.
I have filters put on their computer (they have their own now so they don't accidently find some of my files) and they get supervised computer time. I'm really not as scared of them finding a couple naked pcis as I am of when they are of age to chat and email. Chatrooms to me are ten times worse than any porn pics they may find. Hate and bombmaking sites scare me much more than porn. I know they will eventually figure how to disable filters and my sons will undoutbedly go searching for some nudie pics when they get a little older, but I figure I need to at least guide them and set examples. My son once made a Harry Potter typo and ended up at a porn site (btw, for anyone directing a kids typo domain to porn, I hope you get cancer) and it freaked him out. He knows he not supposed to look at "boobs and butts" until he is older, so he was afraid he was going to get in trouble. The best you can do, Rick, is to educate your daughter as much as possible and not freak out if she finds something objectionable. Also, something I'll be doing once my kids are getting/sending email, is have all their email go through me first and I'll forward it on to them. All we can do is educate our kids and hope they make the best choices they can. |
aol for kids is the way to go.

They had an article in last weeks People or US magazine that talked about the generation of kids growing up with access to internet porn. They interviewed 8th graders and 80% admitted to seeing porn on the internet. This one guy said after catching his 11 and 13 year old boys surfing for it, he made a rule that a parent had to be in the same room if they were going on. He said he was still shocked when his son was looking at a site at the kitchen table with his mom cooking right behind him.
They talked to some others who are now comming of age 18-21 and asked them if it affected the way they treated people in their personal intimate relationships. This one guy said he treated girlfriends like property and expected them to do weird sexual stuff. Another article found that girls thought this is how they were supposed to behave as well from watching the same material themselves. They also felt that sex with multiple partners at the same time was acceptable and some admitted to participating in sexual encounters like this at age 10. It is no wonder why it is so easy to find 1000's of young girls willing to be content these days. It is nothing new or unfamiliar to them. There used to be a progression of sorts for most girls back in the day. Most of the models and content girls I've met over 25-30 say they started as dancers first, then did magazines and later ended up trying film. These days, girls go right to double anal felching with their highschool diploma still warm in their hands and don't even think twice. |

I'll never get these "webmasters" who think they can place hardcore pics in email and hardcore pics in plain view on "innocent" domains. |

I don't think looking at porn is a problem for boys. I was 6 when I learned how to work the new technology called the VCR and find the Debbie Does Dallas tapes. Not that I hadn't already been exposed to hardcore thanks to OnTV . That was 1981.
I think I adjusted ok. I'm courteous to women. I mean, I don't make them get totally naked when they serve me my beer and dinner. I let them wear thongs and heels to keep them comfortable. That's normal right? :winkwink: |
Don't forget Vogue and Cosmo as good spank material!! :thumbsup
|
I can remember playing with myself at 8 years old. I also remember finding my dads porno mag at 10 and getting aroused at the pictures. I also knew it wasn't something I should be seeking out and that it was obviously inappropriate at my age partly just by the fact that the books and mags were hidden.
I found a can of contraceptive foam in my moms drawer and used it as mousse on the cats fur. I had no idea what contraceptive meant. Thought it was a fancy french word for hairstyle or something. My mom had to explain it to me when she came in an saw the cats and asked "wtf?!" I can't imagine being so sexually educated at 10 and even knowing where the hole to put the dick in was really located. |

i contribute a good deal of my sexuality to softcore porn on showtime and cinemax. The good stuff from the 70's and early 80's. Not the stuff now with a toaster positioned just to block the view of any real sex.

Welcome to the amazing world of technology!

My six year old was online tonight doing research on some lighthouse in Maine for a school report. When she uses the computer to play games I don't supervise her, but when she gets on the net, she only does it when I'm in the room with her.
Fortunately she's not old enough to worry about email yet but it's not far off I'm sure. |

I remember stealing my first playboy from the book store... Slipped it under my jacket and walked out with it... I was a hero to my buddies for a while... until someone got a porno movie...:Graucho
|
its a tough situation since computers are the world now. kids will be kids and the internet will be the internet, so what do you do other then all you can
|
We found a playboy calendar in the schoolyard and then later found a stack in a neighbor's poolhouse. They traveled a lot and whenever they left, all the neighborhood kids would go over there and look at them. It was completely hidden from the street and back then, no one locked any doors. I couldn't have been more than 10 because it happened in Atlanta and we moved when I was 10. :)
What's WORSE though is finding one in your kids room - and knowing he's old enough to buy it, read it and there's not a damn thing you can do about it but say "Ewwwww!". :( |
Good thing I still dont have kids! :1orglaugh
|
yeah, I remmember being 9-10 , coming back from playing baseball with my friend, to see his brother and his brother's friends watching a porno... I was like what is this... then seeing it was the big thing for them... to watch that... then the playboys came into the parks, etc....
But I can't imagine this type of thing happenning to the next generations lol they'd be like "what, no anal? Get out of here... BORING!" |
