Stealing Sales

I have recently been told my one of my sponsors, after I reported some missing sales. That they have found the reason my sales went missing, it is because one of their affiliates has worked out a way to steal sales from other affiliates.

Your experiences/thoughts on this?

Is this possible ?

Dildozer 04-26-2004 07:01 AM

Was thinking about that possibility as well a while ago when sales dropped alot. Could be done using hahahahahahas pretty easily i think, or spyware or viruses

EddiePulp 04-26-2004 07:04 AM

Its very odd. The sale shows up. Then the same time every night I check my stats again, and there is 1 sale less from when I checked earlier that day. Frustrating as hell. I've been getting really motivated lately as sales have been good, its a real kick in the head when a sale has just vanished.

chowda 04-26-2004 07:05 AM

could it be traffic sources like ppc that he is stealing sales from?

No, this is just regular TGP traffic. the sale comes in, under referrals it shows a referring URL of where that sale came from. Then later that day.. BOOM.. there are no sales against that reffering URL and I'm down 1 sale :(

honestly?
that sounds more like bad shaving then competition stealing your signups to me.
but i donno
depends on how much you trust your sponsor and their system
stealing sales before they show up... sure
spyware, .... possible
no question

but after they appeared in your stats?? shady.. very shady if you ask me :2 cents:

angelsofporn 04-26-2004 07:18 AM

time to switch sponsors

shaving crossed my mind... but i dont think any sponsor is retarded enough to give me the sale, and then take it away. Honestly I would prefer to just be shaved and not know, then to see a sale. Check back. and See -1 sales. I do trust this sponsor, they have told me they will pay me back for the missing sales. Just annoying that the problem isnt fixed(1week) after if happened the first time.

Ar3s 04-26-2004 07:26 AM

yep this is kick in the head..
watch for your sales people :thumbsup

You'd be amazed

m00d 04-26-2004 09:21 AM

what sponsor is this? they didn't give you any details as to how it was happening? what are you supposed to do to stop it? how do they know it's theft from another affiliate but don't know how? that makes no sense. How did they come to this conclusion?

I'd rather not mention the sponsor at the moment as they've been good to me in the past.

I just got told that their 'programming guys' found out that another affiliate had worked out how to steal sales.

I really do appreciate you not attempting to ruin anyones name here before you contact them first to ask them to look into it.. shows real class.

Please let us know if you can what the company says - companies such as this do not get into business only to ruin themselves a few years later.

damn no word on how long this went on? Several years ago, I used to get this a lot with one of the biggest sponsors out there. It would happen multiple times a day. My partner and I were always catching it. When I hahahahahahahahaed it with days and time, they said it was cc fraud (scrubbing). I never figured out why it took hours/half the day sometimes for a card to get scrubbed. Not too long thereafter we noticed a distinct dropoff in them. Shrug.

Just goes to show that no matter how good a system is it can be broken sorry for your loss in sales sounds like you have a stand up program though.

emthree 04-26-2004 10:26 AM

"Don't worry, it's just a glitch" :1orglaugh

How the fuck can someone "steal" a sale?
they are shaving...and doing a bad job at it :2 cents:

media 04-26-2004 10:27 AM

I remember when that happend a while back at ARS... was only on one of their servers though, didnt affect a whole lot.. but it sure pissed alot of people off..

Sounds like a lame attempt at an excuse... But you never know...

undermyspell 04-26-2004 11:31 AM

I can almost guarantee you that the sponsor shaves. This may not be why you're losing the sale but more than likely what did happen was the shaving feature had an error in it and didn't shave the sale in the way it was intended to.

In theory with shaving when the sale is made it should not show up in your stats area but it will show up in the admin stats area for the program owner. What it sounds like is happening is either you were seeing the owners stats or there was just an all out glitch in timing on removing the sale from your stats area. It was a known bug in one of the affiliate management programs a few months ago but i'm not sure what precisely happened after that.

I can almost assure you though it would be tough for another affiliate to steal the sale after it was already credited to your account. The only way would be for them to hack into the sponsor program and get into the owners area of the admin. If this is the case then I would be concerned about using that particular program anyway because of it's security vulnerability.

Fuck that. They are either stealing from him or have ultra-shitty security that is allowing someone else to do it. I suspect the former. All of these fucking dirtbags should be exposed for what they are - thieves.

Certainly a fucked up situation. Keep your head about you and change sponsors if it isn't resolved quickly.

It seems like a very sketchy thing. For something to appear and the disappear isn't normal. It's even less normal for a supposed reputable company to have a lack of security that'd let another affiliate steal sales. One last observation would also lead to the conclusion that they'd be able to lock out the affiliate stealing the sales. It's not possible for a program to see sales being switched around and not do anything about it.

Maybe they ought to fix their electric razor. :2 cents:

it would shit me, but i'd except it that they shave. Just sucks big time that the sale shows up then goes away. I've noted it happens bout the same time of day(about in 9.5hours time from this post) I'll respond then and let you know if its happened again today.
