WHEN the goverment revels that it is going after a GFY'er for obsenity charges...

So WHEN it is revealed that the goverment revels that it is going after a GFY'er for obsenity charges, would you help him fight back? Would you donate time or money to his cause?

tootie 04-25-2004 10:57 PM

Absolutely. If I could spare it, I would most definately do what I could.

cali_22 04-25-2004 10:59 PM

I donate time when he pay me :321GFY

AMADude 04-25-2004 11:00 PM

Depends what the obscenity is.

SykkBoy 04-25-2004 11:01 PM

depends on the person and the situation

I'd be more likely to help a "known" person than someone I'd never heard of and it would depends upon the violation: what the charge was based on

Whether or not you have sympathy, they are protected by the constitution. Did you read Fletch's big thread on those fantasies?

Do you support violent video games? Movies? Books?

Free speech doesn't just apply to stuff you personally like!

Mr Pheer 04-26-2004 12:03 AM

Absolutely not. I've already seen what GFY does when I need help.

i feel the same way.

i couldn't care less if the site was protected by the constitution. if i don't feel comfortable with the site or it's owners or the concept, i wouldn't donate money or help or even show sympathy.

beemk 04-26-2004 12:13 AM

depends on the situation

montel 04-26-2004 12:18 AM

Here here! :thumbsup

Rictor 04-26-2004 12:32 AM

Free speech doesn't just apply to things I like but there are some things that actually are obscene.

Definately. A lot of it depends on who it is and what their reputation is.

zzgundamnzz 04-26-2004 01:53 AM

I would help the person fight back. Why? Its because I could be the next person they come after.

Theres a difference between "support" and financial support, for instance I "support" the Klu Klux Klan's right to freedom of speech and would condemn any move to curtail this or anything considered "hate speech", but would I send a bunch of christian red necks my hard earned dough? hell no.
They are the ones burning crosses, they can fight with their own money.

Goose 04-26-2004 01:54 AM

sure thing, if I can afford that...

You're right - that's useful in almost every situation :winkwink:

So you are happy to allow local community standards to define what is obscene and what isn't? (as that is the legal definition of obscenity). If not how do you think whether something is obscene or not should be defined? Are you happy for Bush to do it?

VirtuMike 04-26-2004 05:26 AM

I would more than likely contribute, depending on who it was and what they got nailed for. Certain things are too far in my humble opinion, but still, they may need to back to keep the line farther in the reasonable zone.

I would probably contribute anonymously, or known only to the recipient. Certain things warrant PR, others require class.

StRoGE 04-26-2004 05:38 AM

Im too broke to contribute financially, but I'd be happy to lend some "moral" support ;)

MetaformX 04-26-2004 01:26 PM

Those who said "depends on the obsenity" Keep in mind what the justice department has hinted to the fact that once the over 50 obsenity cases are released, they will target the most broad definition of "hardcore"... meaning that even a simple interracial scene could be targetted.
